Why is it harder to fill in my eyebrows, than it is to buy a gun? Why is it harder to adopt a pet than it is to buy a gun? Why is it more difficult to obtain a driver's license than it is to obtain a deadly weapon?
Let's face it -- no normal, average citizen needs an assault weapon. We just don't. Regardless of the reasoning for why one may think they need an assault rifle, the word "assault" is in the name. Assault literally means to make an attack and usually, assault weapons ARE, in fact, deadly. They are meant to be used by military officials who are trained in the practice and actually know how to handle a weapon with such power.
In the United States of America, it's not very difficult to buy a deadly weapon. Although President Obama has talked about trying for stricter gun control, no laws or bills have been passed by congress to enact such a change. What many people tend to think is that as soon as anyone mentions gun control, they automatically want to take guns away. Usually -- that's not the case. Rather, the case is that many American citizens have decided it's time for a change -- time for human beings to stop dying, due to the leniency of their nation's gun control laws.
Once people started justifying that it's okay to kill 26 innocent elementary school children in Sandy Hook, and 9 black church goers in Charleston, and 49 blameless LGBT+ human beings in Orlando, Florida, the idea of gun control suddenly became radical. But gun control is not radical. Gun control is necessary in order for those who have passed to receive justice and for those who live an average life to feel safe.
Owning a gun may make you feel safe, but wouldn't one feel better if they knew how to properly use it? In the United States there is little gun control and no safety class required to obtain a gun permit. How can one be sure they know how to use a firearm if there is no requirement on education for it?
So, let's put this in perspective for a second -- to obtain a driving permit, you must fill out paperwork stating and proving that you are a legal citizen, have no liabilities that will inhibit your ability to drive or handle a moving vehicle, and you have to pass a written test as well. To obtain a gun permit, you must fill out paperwork stating you are a legal citizen and prove you can properly identify how to use a firearm. To obtain a driver's license, you must have a permit for 6 months, and have 30 hours of supervised driving experience by a licensed adult who is 21 years of age or older. You then must schedule a road test in which your driving ability will be tested at the highest possible extent. To buy a legal firearm, all you need is a permit. Although gun laws vary state by state, a license and permit when talking about firearms are the same thing.
So America, why is it easier to own a deadly weapon than it is to drive a car? When did we, as a country, start saying it's okay to murder innocent children, innocent black people, and innocent LGBT people? When did we start standing for the justification of the execution of faultless human beings?
