Started From The Bottom Now We Here: America's Best Hikes

Mountains, glaciers and canyons create some of the most beautiful adventures accessible in the United States. While no one will ever agree on the best hikes this beautiful, diverse country has to offer, here are a few ideas of where to bring your backpack, walking stick and hiking boots (in no particular order).

The Franconia Ridge Traverse - New Hampshire

Having lived in this tiny state for over eight years, I'm partial to the White Mountains. Franconia Ridge covers the expanse of two 5,000 foot peaks. The precarious trail runs along the ridge for miles. Daring New England hikers shouldn't take the views for "granite."

The Grand Canyon - Arizona

Grand Canyon National Park is a fantastic expanse of desert gorges, offering the most hard-core mountain hikers a chance to test their mental and physical limits. Either way, this world landmark is a must-see. Oh, and you'll need a lot of water.

The Columbia River Gorge & Pacific Crest Trail - Oregon

I may be a little biased here as I am both an Oregon native and a huge fan of the film "Wild," starring Reese Witherspoon, which takes place along the Pacific Crest Trail that winds through California and Oregon. The Columbia River Gorge, a spectacular hiking destination a little outside of Portland, showcases amazing Pacific Northwest vistas and of course, the Columbia River. It's no wonder Lewis & Clark thought they had found the Promised Land.

Arches National Park - Utah

Between Zion and Canyonlands, there were too many National Parks in Utah to pick from. Arches showcases the best of the southwestern desert and its spectacular rock formations. The park has over 2,000 natural stone arches and countless red-rock sunsets.

The Appalachian Trail - East Coast

One of the most famous hikes in the US, the Appalachian Trail runs from Georgia to Maine and covers almost every terrain and weather in between. The challenge is, it typically takes five to seven months, according to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, so pack a few extra pairs of underwear.

From coast to coast, there's countless amazing hikes in the US. Happy Trails!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
