Among the sound of guns going off, adrenaline rushing, and the taste of salty tears, "American Sniper" is a courageous life story. This breathtaking movie took war movies to another level. Clint Eastwood, director, melted Americans' hearts with this outstanding, yet intense movie about a young soldier whose love for his country was indescribable. From the inspiring message sent to viewers and the heart-wrenching love for his family, country, and soldiers, to the intense scenes that had people biting their nails from start to finish, American Sniper uses many different methods to melt the hearts of the audience.
During this movie, Chris Kyle, the lead role, was sent to Afghanistan to serve his country. He was the top sniper for the U.S. Navy with 160 kills. Kyle grew up on a small ranch with his father, who inspired him as a young child through hunting and sticking up for his little brother. As time eventually went on, Kyle's brother had also enlisted into the military, following in Chris' footsteps. Kyle was also stepping up to the plate to help the other veterans that have post-traumatic stress disorders. Kyle felt the need to keep people going every day. He kept volunteering himself to go to war, although his wife and family were not very happy.
From the beginning to the end, this movie was constantly filled with an undying love for his country, family, and fellow fighters. Kyle never stopped loving the country he was fighting for, even after the many traumatic experiences he went through by ending the lives of 160 people; Chris Kyle was still a proud, courageous man. He had so much pride and never wanted to let his people down. Chris Kyle had two kids, a boy and a girl, who he had loved dearly, but had not seen as much as he could have. He also had a wife that cared deeply about him and wanted him home. Her phone calls are what kept Chris motivated daily. Chris was so devoted to fighting the war, that it had actually gotten to the point where his wife threatened to leave him. That moment was when Chris Kyle knew that he needed to get home.
Not only did Chris Kyle love his family and his country, but he loved his fellow soldiers and veterans. During the war, he never left anyone behind; he felt as the sniper that he was responsible for keeping the other military groups safe. Even when one went down, he did not fail to leave them behind. The scene in which the tank was bombed is a perfect example of when Chris never left his friend's side. He even went to see him all the way in the hospital, only to end up at his funeral where he was properly buried in a ceremony. While I enjoyed this movie, there were also many intense and uneasy scenes. Being a movie of war, American Sniper was definitely not going to be all butterflies and happy, and there were many controversial scenes. A perfect example of this was when Chris had to shoot a young child. That was an unexpected scene that nobody expected to happen, but it was a reality check to the citizens of the United States. War is not pretty nor glorious.
American Sniper is a heart-wrenching truth which made it even more sob-worthy. It’s won numerous awards. It’s a heartbreaking eye opener of the what our soldiers deal with in day to day combat.
