How Trump is Your Fault

How are you hanging in there, everyone?

It has been a tough week for Americans. Well, it has been a tough week for Americans who did not vote for Trump, but it truly has been a tougher week for the marginalized groups that Trump is single handedly going to take down with his pen. We have all heard of his desire to change the way immigration works in this country. He effectively closed the doors to America, essentially putting people into solitary in airports despite the fact they legally obtained their Visa and/or Green Card to come to the “land of the free and the brave.” Ironic, is it not, that a country whose founding was based in the principle of freedom from an oppressive government and religion. Sound familiar? 'Cause it should.

But there is not anything left to be said about those actions specifically, and to educate ourselves about what Trump being President really means (even though I refuse to admit he is the President). What there is left to be said is more for the people out there who fail to understand what Trump is. He is a threat to each and every single American, whether you are someone who presents and identifies as white, heterosexual, and educated, or if you are a Syrian refugee just trying to make a new home for yourself or face death in the eyes. I don’t know about you, but I would run from death. I would want to be welcomed somewhere (and I currently suggest Canada).

It is time, however, we educated ourselves about a bigger problem in America. The problem in America of those who defend their vote in this past presidential election by saying that they do not condone the behaviors of our new Thing 1 & Thing 2. Those who say that we need to band together and have “hope” that Trump will surprise as all and effectively run our country and solve issues of national debt.

This snowflake is here to call you the fuck out. I am not here to razzle dazzle you with big Ivy league level words or metaphors, I am not here to tell you what I know about health insurance of Sallie Mae (except for that I HATE her). What I am here to tell you, is that you are an enabler of Trump if you voted for Trump. Your vote for Trump enables someone who has a blatant disregard for the women who birthed each and every single one of us.

For the teachers who educated us in the public school systems (and private schools, I suppose). For the religions that people have a deep misunderstanding of in the Middle East. For the leaders of the Civil Rights, LGBT equal rights movements that preceded my time. Your vote went towards a man whose rhetoric literally embodies hatred. He seemingly is more invested in making up numbers of formal Presidential events, tweeting things that make no sense, and letting his wife follow him up stair cases without so much as a helping hand.

Your vote is enabling this behavior. The vote you submitted on Election Day went towards a man whose rhetoric and course of action is incredibly similar to a world leader who is less than loved in modern history. I hate the defenses that people make. The excuses that the votes do not really matter. That just because they voted for someone who likes to grab women by the pussy, it does not mean they approve of that language and action. But yes, it fucking does do just that.

If you truly believed that women are valued members of society, you would never want the President of the United States to be making decisions for them in regards to their body. You would never want the President of the United States sexualizing them in the media more than they are already sexualized on a daily basis. Women should not be viewed as sex objects, as property, as anything other than valued members of our society. If you truly believed that, you never would have voted for a sexist named Donald.

If you believed that your LGBT friends and family were people, you would not have voted for a tag team of rainbow hating bigots to effectively take away the rights we had to wait hundreds of years for. It took your one vote to set back all the progress we made in regards to acceptance of same sex relationships and marriage. To state and federal rights for same-sex couples who want to share in the joys of marriage the way their heterosexual counterparts do. No heterosexual man or women grew up dreaming of a civil union or a domestic partnership, so why the fuck should the LGBT community have to do the same?

Freedom of religion. Freedom of speech. Right to privacy. Right to healthcare. These are all things your vote decided to negatively ruin for Americans across the country and those looking to immigrate to our country. You know, the same way your ancestors most likely immigrated to America on a plane or a boat. My great grandparents came to the United States in search of a better life in approximately the early 1900’s. Knowing the life my extended family members left behind to come to America to improve their lives and descendants lives makes me furious that we are denying people the opportunity to legally do the same thing. While my heritage lies in Canada, Italy, the Czech Republic, and Ireland, I know that I am American at heart because of their migrating to the United States so that their children, my parents, my siblings and I could live lives fit for us to live.

Your vote enabled Donald Trump.

You contributed to this.

You do not reserve the right to complain about his actions because you allowed them.

The hatred you may get on social media, in person, are all fractions of hate marginalized groups have received.

Your privilege in America has allowed you to make the wrong decision in this election.

Your vote went to someone whose looking to take down everything in your life that you have ever built.

Whether you gay, straight, Catholic, Muslim, male, female, disabled or abled, you will be impacted by this.

You will be impacted by your own vote of hatred.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
