I really and not too fond of publicizing my political views, but in light of the past week’s inauguration, and the great political up rest across our nation, I could not resist writing about my opinion. Please, if you have questions, or hate/love my ideas, comment below.
Every day I have the joy of opening up my laptop, and without looking at anything, already knowing that I am about to read some hateful, spiteful and enormously one-sided opinions about our country. Today it was nothing short of my expectations. Reading my Facebook feed, I found that pop icon Madonna wanted to “blow up the White House”. Then I thought to myself, ‘wow, this is what America has turned into’.
Other than the fact that a new president has just been sworn into office, we experience this all the time. And don’t get me wrong, we are not the only country that has significant split views on our politics, but look at what has come of this super-power nation. We have celebrities calling out political leaders, and political leaders immaturely tweeting back at them. We have riots and death threats from highly speculated individuals. And most recently, we have famous TV writers calling out the 10-year old son of the POTUS via social media. In taking a step back, and taking this all in, it is clear that we need to change as a whole.
Our country, just as any other country, will never have one solid political belief. There will always be a line dividing democrats and republicans, and that is what secretly authenticates our nation. After the past weekend, I was left a little confused. I try not to have biased thoughts regarding either political party, and in keeping an open mind, I had one question. Why as American citizens, are some of us pushing for President Trump to fail in the White House? Now I know this may sound very unsophisticated and easily answered, but as I watch the news, read social media, and talk to other American citizens, this question constantly lingers in my mind. Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, etc., as an American citizen it will benefit you if our President is successful in the White House. You don't have to love him, the things he says, or his policies, but to me, being unsupportive and almost wishing that Trump’s presidency is a failure, is just illogical and not in one's own best interest.
As this has been the most speculated and drama filled election I have seen in my lifetime, we must also remember to trust the system. For the past 240 years, presidents have come in and out of the White House. Regardless of how successful or not these presidents have been, they have gotten us to the great place that we are today. As I am a college student, President Trump will be in office when I graduate and go out into the work force. And, as I need to worry about my own success, the success of our government is without a doubt in my self interests, and really should be in the self interest of any logical American.
As I 100% believe, even with its dramatic flaws, our country is the greatest country in the world.
In moving forward, we are sure to have nothing but an interesting 4 years ahead of us.
