America. When will you wake up? When will you realize the difference between an entertainer and an executive leader? The difference between the requirements to become a successful business entrepreneur versus the importance of the requirements needed to become the leader of a nation?
As students, we have learned the importance of voting. We learned the reasons why our founding fathers believed we deserved this right and why we were given it in the first place. Voting should be taken into careful consideration, not as a joke.
Within every Presidential election, there is always a divided nation. Some citizens support the Republican Party while others prefer the Democratic side. Then, we have a smaller percentage of supporters who prefer either the Libertarian or Green Party. I have witnessed many presidential elections, yet this one in particular is quite scary!
I do not vote. Not because I prefer not to but simply because I can’t. Since I am a non-voter, this incoming election frightens me because I reside in this country whose future may be in jeopardy. My family, communities, minorities and the entire country as a whole will be affected if we don’t choose wisely. All too soon a candidate will be elected to govern the nation for 4 years.
As the presidential election gets closer and closer, it feels as if America and its citizens are at risk. I turn on the television and all I see and hear about is Donald Trump in addition to people pleading for Americans to make the right decision on Election Day.
When his “I’m running for the Presidency” announcement was first aired on every media outlet, I laughed and I thought it was a joke. I didn’t think it could get as serious as it is now. But, based on the most recent primary results, Trump becoming the republican nominee is more than likely to happen than not.
But, how?
Even though Trump is the Republican presidential front-runner, I do not understand how he represents their ideals. So far, his campaigns have proven the following:
He is racist. Although he claims to be anything but racist, Trump has shared his opinions on minority groups in ways that only portray hatred towards them. He has spoken about Muslims, Hispanics- specifically Mexicans, and Blacks, ignoring the fact that they too, are humans and that America is great because it’s been a place of diversity and is made up primarily of immigrants.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.”
He is Anti-Muslim. It wasn’t much of a surprise when once again Trump offended the Muslim community. Apparently he has found more than one reason to watch over them. Whatever happened to the First Amendment in the Constitution and the Freedom to practicing any religion?
"I think that we should definitely disallow any Muslims from coming in. Any of them. The reason is simple: we can't identify what their attitude is."
-Donald Trump during a South Carolina visit, CNN
He is Anti-Immigrant. During his GOP debates and states’ visits, Trump has proposed mass deportations as a way to make America “great” again and as a way to solve all of the nation’s problems. Really, though? Is it not clear how all of these immigrants contribute to the economy and the growth of the nation? Stop blaming Immigrants for everything and get your act together Trump!
He is Anti-Feminism. In more than one instance Trump has made it more than obvious that his respect towards the female population is low and gives their physical appearances all the credit to their success.
“You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young, and beautiful, piece of ass.”
Many have gone as far as comparing the Presidential candidate to Hitler and I can’t blame them as some of his ideals are scarily similar to Hitler’s. He even looks a little bit like him!
Thus far, Trump has been able to stand out the most in comparison to his opponents. But, at the end of the day Trump is nothing but a great entrepreneur. Owning multiple businesses such as hotels, casinos, and clothing brands, has allowed him to maintain his social status and a more than stable financial status. In terms of being our next President, how suitable and reliable is he to handle this country? Is he meeting some of our ideals and needs? That’s just something to keep in mind.
So when voting for our next President this coming November, think of how much of a difference your vote can make in the nation. The future of America is our choice.
Say no to Trump!
