We've all seen girls post photos where some part of their body looks slightly deformed. We think to ourselves, is this truly what they look like? Well no, it's not. Facetune is an app offered on the Apple App Store for $4 that allows users to "touch up," but students have recently taken this app to a whole other extreme. Some refer to Facetune as "the skinny app," others use it to smooth over their blemishes or whiten their teeth. Don't think we don't notice, we know what you look like in person. This app has created a virtual reality where we make ourselves look like "models." Even celebrities such as Khloe Kardashian have admitted to using Facetune. Students have begun to rely on this app instead of taking care of themselves because it's the easy way out. Why are we so uncomfortable with our image that we have to literally use an app to edit how we appear to others? It's a sad world we live in today.
Roy Furchgott, The New York Times, said, "Facetune helps you look your Hollywood best, even in photos taken on mobile phones."
Well, Furchgott, Facetune is also ruining our society. Let's abolish it.
I took the initiative in playing around with the app and here's what I discovered.
The following photos are pictures of myself abusing this app.
1. Reshape Feature
This feature allows users to reshape their body. What some users don't realize is that not only does it reshape your body, but the objects surrounding the subject. It's very noticeable.
2. Detail Feature
This feature allows users to create/enhance abs on their stomach. If you're like me and don't have abs to begin with, this feature simply enhances my non-existant abs.
3. Patch Feature
Patch up a part of your skin with another part of your skin, or even someone else's skin!
4. Tones Feature
Here we can paint ourselves a different skin tone!
5. Whiten Feature
Whiten your teeth or whatever you feel is necessary. "My teeth are whiter than yours."
6. Smooth Feature
Smooth on over that blemished or oily face of yours. They even offer an option called "smoother."
While we could all use a touch up once in awhile, this app is completely ridiculous. I'm proud to say that after experimenting I see no use in Facetune and believe it should be abolished, as it is harming our society.
