I Am A Woman, But This Is Not My March

A woman that chose to look through a different lens.

I am a Woman.

I am a Conservative.

I was given the gift of being an American, given the gift to think anything and speak anything that I believed to be true.

But I do not support this march.

We live in a country where we are free to scream "Free the Nipple" and march in the street with a Vagina hat on our heads. But by doing this what are we accomplishing? Yes, you have been noticed. Yes, society knows you have breasts and a vagina, and now you have created history. But I do not stand with the history that is being made.

Women alone can't change who is voted into office. But you do get a choice on how you represent yourself.

Just like some women feel the need to march in the streets, there are women that do not agree with this march. Because even though it is one group of women, they are representing us all as a whole and some women do not see the need to draw attention to the feminism process. I do not agree with the screaming of obscure comments, body paintings of "Nasty Woman" painted across the chests of naked woman's bodies. But then again that is your right, you do what you have to do to prove to society that you are a woman and you deserve these rights. In the end, it is your right girl, do what you need to do to express your freedom.

We take for granted where we have chosen to protest our freedom of speech. Women can walk around screaming their thoughts in offensive clothing and not be arrested, raped or murdered for speaking out. We live in a country where we are not stoned in the street for saying what is on our mind.

If rights are in the right-hand, responsibility is in the left.

Over and over again I kept seeing on billboards and signs that stated, "I protest for my rights." What rights were being taken away?

You were able to vote, maybe the vote did not fall in your favor. But your vote was respected and counted in the United States of America. But it is your responsibility as an American woman to vote.

You have the right to work, but it is your responsibility to get a job and work for the wages you earn.

It is your right to birth control, but it is your responsibility to purchase them and take other precautions while you lay with a man.

You have a right to speech, but it is your responsibility to respect and not slander other women that do not share your opinion.

It is your right to assemble, but it your responsibility to use your words and don't destroy property.

Even though these protests claimed to be full of active feminist supporters. It seemed to do nothing except shift responsibility and blaming men for the situation that women believed they were put into. What is the true goal, to accept more responsibility and work towards the goal of women in power? Or to blame men for putting them in the category of being unstable and irrational? When these acts put women in the categories themselves.

Women have the right to vote, assemble, and have the freedom of speech. Do not take for granted that the riots were not broken up by police, the women were not imprisoned for speaking ill about their commander and chief. The freedom of speech is a beautiful thing that our country was gifted with. Now do not take advantage of it to speak toxic things about this nation.

While women are out in the streets, there are women in police uniforms, women doctors, women soldiers in combat, women in congress and the supreme court, and a woman just ran for Commander and Chief of this Country. These women did not make these strides in history marching with signs that have female genitalia on them. They worked hard, right beside men, worked a little harder and earned the respect while keeping cool, collective and a normal head about them pushing through sexism in the workplace and government.

They did not scream and demand respect, they earned it. Strong women that I am proud to say that I admire and stand beside.

Dignity does not scream in a crowd, dignity is calm and self-sacrificing. This march could have been a beautiful unity of women, but it ended up being a rebellion of screaming and separation of our nation.

You do not represent me, or the other women I know.

I am a Feminist, I am an American, I know my rights, but I want to be known for more than another angry voice in a crowd of broken hearts.

"Women that seek to be equal to men, lack ambition."-- Timothy Leary.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
