In my 21 years of life, I have always had a passion for people. Not in a creepy, stalkerish, obsessive way, but in the way they function, comprehend, and do some of the things they do. I always believed that some people were complicated because there was more to their story and past. We can all agree this is true, but with that thought, I always believed that people could be fixed, that people could be saved.
I was wrong.
People are only saved and helped when they decide so themselves. I have learned that sticking my nose in the business of others not only affects me, indirectly, but it also affects them because people only understand and believe whatever they choose to believe and understand. People don’t generally like to accept the help they don’t believe they need or, at times, don't think they deserve.
“Your opinion is your opinion, your perception is your perception. Do not confuse them with ‘facts’ or truths.’” – John Moore
What I believe and choose to understand, or to not understand, and accept could make someone else not understand me or maybe it could make perfect sense to them.
Which leads to my favorite word: perspective.
Narrow-minded people, or as they choose to call themselves, “strong-minded individuals,” do not have a sense of understanding of the word "perspective." Not everything makes sense equally to everyone.
Everyone has a different way of interpreting whatever they choose to understand, believe, create, discover, or bring to reality.
Some people lack the skill of communication, so at times, their behavior or way of doing certain things gets altered by the lack of delivering what they intended to bring to the table from the start.
For example : This piece of writing will make perfect sense to you, or it will confuse you and leave you wondering what you just wasted your five minutes on.
Which results in the magic of comprehension and assimilation of different information.
We are not cookie-cutter equal individuals.
Wait up: My saying we are not equal individuals does not in any shape or form lead to my thinking some are better than others. I strongly and without a doubt believe everyone deserves to be treated with the same respect and compassion.
But back to my thought: We are not equal. Everyone is diverse and different in a special, kick-ass way. Finding and accepting this in everyone is the hard part because our own understanding and comprehension gets foggy by the input of not only our own thoughts but the thoughts of everyone around us.
Not only are we the masters of our own reality, but the people in our lives get to hang out and change our own little world too.
So with all of this being said:
Ha, life. It’s weird. It’s cool. It’s fun. Really fun.
Don’t waste your time trying to understand the behavior of others; make the most of your time by trying to obtain respect for others even after that “questionable” behavior of theirs. Don’t let their reality affect yours.
And please don’t affect their reality by trying to shove yours into every little hole you find.
People are broken, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the glue you think you can provide will fix them.
“I stopped explaining myself when I realized people only understand from their level of perception” – Unknown
Do whatever you want to do, and the people that understand and love you will stay in your life no matter what.
