If you take a second to reflect back to your middle school emo phase, I’m almost certain that All Time Low will come to mind. Songs like "Remembering Sunday" and "Weightless" probably spoke to your tortured teenage soul. Did you know that they kept making music? And that this year has been both their weekend and their year? Or that they’re going to be in the area for not just one, but TWO shows this week?
As the self-proclaimed #1 ATL Hustler, I believe everyone should experience an All Time Low show at least once in their lives. Here are my top 10 favorite things about All Time Low:
1. Rian Dawson’s Smile
Dawson is known for a handful of things, like his Starbucks obsession, his super cute relationship with country star Cassadee Pope, or even his award-winning drumming. Most importantly, he is known for his smile, just check out those perfect pearly whites.
2. STD
No, I’m not talking about sexually transmitted diseases you little pervs; I’m talking about "Straight To DVD," All Time Low’s movie! If you can’t make it to an ATL concert you can always go back and watch their New York show from the 2009 Glamour Kills Tour. Not only is the entire show recorded, but there’s even a whole behind the scenes portion where you get an inside view on the chaos that ensues on an All Time Low tour.
3. Facebook Photo Captions
Almost every day while on tour, All Time Low uploads new photos to their Facebook Page. As great as the photos are (shout out to their photographers this tour, Tom and Adam), the captions are even better. The captions and comment replies highlight the band’s insanity:
4. Jack’s Mic Stand
Once upon a time, someone threw a bra on stage at an All Time Low show, now every show Jack’s mic stand looks like a hook in a Victoria’s Secret dressing room.
5. Full Frontal
Who allowed the two least qualified people to host a podcast, host a podcast? Every Monday, a new episode of "Full Frontal" is released. Jack and Alex host while Rian and their lighting guy, Jeff Maker, handle the production, look things up on google and wheezing. There are games, fun facts, stories, advice and more! They’ve even taken the show to live comedy clubs on this tour for their first ever trial run of Full Frontal LIVE!
6. Jalex/Rilex/Merrikat
Is it just a bromance, or are these band members actually in love? Depending upon who you ask some ships are more concrete than others; personally, I think I will just let the APMA’s (Alternative Press Music Awards) do the talking...
7. The Crew
When it comes to All Time Low, some of the members of the crew are just as recognizable as the members of the band. ATL has a killer team out with them right now who are responsible for making sure each show goes amazingly (shout out to Jeff Maker for the coolest lighting designs I have ever experienced). Even people who have left the team are still relevant *cough* long live Vinny Vegas *cough* *cough* Flyzik please come back. *cough*
8. Hustlers
You’ve heard of Beliebers, well meet the Hustlers: The Hustlers are the ATL fan base, which for lots of people become like a family. If you’re crazy enough to pay $25 a year, you can Join the Official Hustler Club to receive special perks like Meet and Greet, Presale tickets, and get a cool ass key chain.
9. Consistency
Never have I ever heard that All Time Low has put on a bad show. Yes, their fan base may be primarily young teenage fangirls, and yes, those young girls probably don’t know the proper etiquette for a rock show, and they may do some pretty cringey things, but All Time Low alone always satisfies their crowd. If you have left an All Time Low show unsatisfied, please contact me and I will buy you ice cream to make up for it.
10. They’re Always There
Whether it’s their Twitter, old episodes of "Full Frontal," their Facebook page (which they update way too much), interviews, or most importantly their music, they are always there and are always accessible to make anyone's day brighter. At the end of the day, they’re just four best friends doing what they love and making people happy, and if that doesn’t make you happy, yourself, then I don’t know what would.
