At first, I doubted the hype about HBO's hit show Game of Thrones. After all, being fantasy nerd trash, I had already read the book series and was therefore skeptical that the show remake could ever live up to the original genius. However, two years ago, I decided to jump on the bandwagon. From the first scene of the first episode, I was hooked. Why should you watch Game of Thrones, you might ask?For those who aren't fantasy geeks, I give you eight reasons why GoT should be your next guilty binge.
1. The Plot Twists
Sure, brag about your favorite show's plot twists all you want. However, GoT blows them all out of the water and proves that there is no such thing as too shocking.
2. The Characters
Every single one of the characters is portrayed with exceptional acting ability and written with depth and complexity. You learn to love them all (yes, even the unholy trinity of Joffrey Baratheon, Walder Frey, and Ramsay Bolton).
3. The Diversity
One of the aspects of the characters that makes them so likable is the diversity throughout the cast. We have people of all genders, sexualities, races, and appearances portrayed as both heroes and villains.
4. Tyrion's One Liners
If you've seen any trailers for this show, Peter Dinklage's portrayal of Tyrion Lannister is most likely included. Although he lacks stature, he is not short on sass nor sarcasm.
5. Some Pretty Epic Deaths
GoT might not be the choice for you if you tend to get squeamish. However, for those of you who can handle a little blood and guts, there are some pretty memorable deaths that make the show that much more shockingly entertaining (for those of you who've seen it, two words: Oberyn Martell).
6. Daenerys Targaryen
Just look at that face. Who wouldn't want to watch someone this beautiful ride around on dragons and kick major butt?
7. The Artistic Value
The very first episode gives viewers a taste of the beauty the show is known for. From a hauntingly epic score to spectacular cinematography, GoT does not skimp on the production value.
8. You'll Stop Getting Annoyed by Articles Like This
Still not convinced? Then at least try the show in an attempt to appease all your gung ho friends who constantly say things like "You know nothing, Jon Snow" that just make no sense to you. Trust me, you'll thank us later (or not, seeing as how everyone who watches this show is constantly in tears). In fact, don't watch GoT unless you're prepared to take on a life-ruining obsession.
