"Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you; spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life."
Friendship is such a unique and hard thing to explain. In elementary school, I would have considered myself as one of the popular kids. I had so many friends, I couldn't even count on my hands! In middle school, I still had a lot of friends but I realized that I had different friends for different reasons. In high school, things really began to change and still hasn't been the same since. At this point in life, I had friends but I didn't really know if the were my friends or not. Now life has taught me, if you are not sure if someone is your friend or not, more than likely they aren't.
See what I mean by this is, friendship shouldn't have to be something that you question. In high school, time after time I found myself questioning "my friends." After only realizing that they weren't my friends. Don't get me wrong now, I have friends from high school that I love, just not as many as I thought. Now that I'm in college I can see why my mom always says "It takes a lifetime to get to know someone."
Growing up we have to open our eyes to the realization that some people are only put in our lives for certain seasons and thats it. I struggled with the problem of wanting to make all of my friendships last. Well, in life that just isn't the case. You meet each and every person for a different reason. Some people were meant to be there for a lifetime while others just a season. Some people are meant to be there everyday or just one phone call away. It takes time to know who your "friends" are so don't be so quick to open up.
Some people are placed in your life to be your best friend or just a friend. Give yourself the time to see where God is trying to place that person in your life. Now I'm not at all telling you not to make friends but be slow to grow. Friends are so valuable and although all of your friendships won't last, learn from them. Each friendship is each a blessing or a lesson.
A friend is defined as "a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond of mutual affection." So wait on those friends that will be placed in your life to inspire you and challenge you to be the best version of you. I promise they are out there, it's all in God's timing. Be patient and I promise they'll change your life.
