Thank You
To my freshmen year roommates, it’s been an interesting ride. At first I thought I was crazy, moving to a different state, and picking random roommates. It turned out to be one of the greatest things that’s happened this year. As our year comes to a close, I want to take some time to just tell you how thankful I am for you.
Thank you for being friendly our first week of school. Orientation was overwhelming, we felt as if we’d never walked more in our lives, and somehow we made it through. We stuck together, went to each other’s meetings, and complained about the heat together.
Thank you for being different. I know it sounds weird, but it’s a blessing. Our personalities matched up perfectly because we are all so weird, in our own way. Bringing different cultures, backgrounds, and attitudes into one room was something short of amazing.
Thank you for forcing me to try something new. From food, to TV shows, it was a new experience. I loved our trips to food markets, and new stores. I’ll admit that maybe the food wasn’t my favorite, but the point is I tried it.
Thank you for dealing with my outbursts of energy. Most of the time they hit during periods of extreme stress, or after a large intake of sugar. The important thing is that we made it through them; granted there might have been yelling and lots of laughter.
Thank you for putting up with my long showers, and at times messy area. Yes, I might have stayed in the shower a bit longer because you were pounding on the door, but it was funny in the end. Thank you for accepting the challenge and navigating our room like an obstacle course at times of extreme clutter.
Thank you for taking care of me when I was sick, or needed to go to the doctor. You always made sure I took my medicine and had enough tissues and snacks to make it through the day. That was sweet.
Thank you for pulling insane study sessions with me in the study room. Nothing screams dedication like 8 hours together, a pizza, and tons of notecards. It was better because I had you there, and what can I say: we got each other through it.
In all, you’ve probably heard it a thousand times, “You never forget your freshmen year roommates”, we I certainly won’t. I will miss our trips to get food, crazy antics, and wonderful bond. May our group chat live on forever, along with the countless embarrassing photos we have to remember this time.
Now, we’ve almost done it! Our freshmen year is nearly over, and sophomore years seems a bit more manageable. Finals have nothing on us, we’ve got our snacks and study sessions. No doubt, moving out will be hard and tearful. I just want you to know that I couldn’t have done this without you, and your “Where are you?” texts.
