A Letter To My Past Self

Dear Past Me,

Hey there, it's good ol 19 year old you coming at ya. I'd like to tell you that I have it all figured out and my life is great, but that is just not true. We're still chugging along though don't worry.

I'd also like to tell you that life gets easier as it goes on, but again that is just not the case.

Since you left for college things have gotten pretty tough. You live on your own, you're stressed out almost always, and you're flat out broke. That is pretty much the life of any college student though so we're basically on track.

What I can tell you, with absolute certainty, is that you would never believe the person you've become. You aren't some weird girl with braces like you were in middle school. You are not the cheer captain but also low key band geek you were in high school. You are someone who you would be proud of.

Growing up had it's ups and downs but I have plenty of tips for you.

1. Don't ever lie to Mom. She is a wizard, she finds out everything. Just tell her when you mess up, she'll most likely laugh about it.

2. Don't talk to Dad if the Steelers are losing. Let him be angry in peace, and then come hang with him later with some cashews.

3. Don't take your sisters clothes without asking. Especially if she is in one of her moods, you'll never hear the end of it.

4. Don't try to date your brothers friends. He won't be too happy about that. Wait until you're older and then make your move.

5. Do your homework and study. This has never been our favorite thing to do but it's a must. Keep your grades up and stay focused on what is important.

6. Don't forget to have fun. Go out with your friends, spend time with the family, do stupid shit that you'll probably regret because it'll make a great story.

7. Don't let boys become your everything. Boys are cool and we love them but never let them monopolize your life. YOU are your number one priority.

8. Don't sweat the small stuff. Bad things happen, but let those things go. Forgive and forget. Life goes on, no need to hold grudges.

9. Enjoy every moment. Life is short and believe me time flies so cherish the moments you get to spend with the people you love.

That's basically all I got. Enjoy your youth young one, adulting is not fun, would not recommend. Just know that things aren't so bad right now, so you're headed in the right direction. You are set out to become one hell of a person with a lot of great people to support you in all of your endeavors. But, no matter how old we grow we'll always stay young at heart.

Keep on keeping on past me because the view ahead looks pretty damn good.

Love Always,

19 Year Old Me

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
