Feb. 1, 2016, Alessia Cara stopped in Atlanta for her Know-It-All tour. She had three opening acts including Leaf, Craig Stickland and Kevin Garrett. The show was at the small, but intimate, venue, Terminal West.
The show started with Leaf, a female rapper who dedicated a song to independent women and proceeded to spell “money” for two minutes. Craig Stickland took the stage after her and he made my heart melt. He looked so similar to Hozier and his voice quite possibly made every girl go weak in the knees. He played acoustic guitar during his set and it just made it 1,000 times better. Stickland also performed a refreshingly odd cover of “Hello” and it had me sold.
Kevin Garrett played the last set before Alessia, and him and his “band” reminded me of Troye Sivan’s album “Blue Neighborhood.” The similarities between Garrett’s set and Sivan’s album were very strong and although Garrett’s songs were a bit slower, it was a pretty good set.
Alessia finally came on stage around 9:45 p.m. and the atmosphere changed. I’ve never heard any of her songs other than “Here," so I was pretty interested in how it was going to go.
As it turns out, I really like what Alessia stands for. She’s all for body positivity and she’s so real. She had songs about heartbreak and the people you know you should let go of and songs about the people that keep you grounded. She incorporated a mini cover of “Diamonds” by Rihanna in her own song “Stars.” Her set was incredible and it was definitely one of the best shows I’ve seen.
All in all, it was a great show and I'll definitely be seeing her again the next time she comes to Atlanta. She has such an amazing aura on stage and she's incredible at what she does.
