2015 has been an amazing year for music. So many new artists have emerged, and several other artists have released music that has brought them back to the forefront. I'm no fancy music critic, but I just wanted to showcase some of my favorite albums from this year.
5. "American Beauty/American Psycho" - Fall Out Boy
Fall Out Boy definitely changed their sound with this album, but they continue to wow us with wide range of styles they thrive in. Many of the singles on this album were incredibly popular, including "Uma Thurman," "Irresistible," and "Centuries." The success of this album was also acknowledged on Spoitfy's list of top albums for 2015. Being their sixth big album, "American Beauty/American Psycho" shows that Fall Out Boy will never fail to create new music that showcases a new side of their band.
4. "American Candy" - The Maine
I had never listened to The Maine before "American Candy" was released. This album is such a beautiful collection of songs that discuss several unique situations that may not be common themes in songs. Opening with "Miles Away," listeners quickly become acquainted with The Maine's sound and specifically to "American Candy." The album then continues with several songs that have quickly become my favorites, such as "Am I Pretty?" and "(Un)Lost." This album is perfect for any type of day and for any mood a listener may be in. The versatility of this album makes it one of my favorites of not only the year, but of any I have listened to.
3. "Purpose" - Justin Bieber
I was always anti-Bieber when I was younger. I never thought he was talented or liked his music. That all changed once Bieber started releasing singles from "Purpose." I tried so hard to resist catching "Bieber Fever" but the singles were so catchy, I couldn't resist. Now, I might even consider myself a "Belieber." I have talked to many other people that underwent the same transition with the release of "Purpose." With this single album, Justin Bieber was able to gain so many fans and catch a lot of attention. Although I have not listened to every song on the album, I know that any album that can completely change my mind about an artist is a powerful, quality album.
2. "Badlands" - Halsey
Ever since Halsey released "Badlands" in August, my roommates and I have been listening to it on repeat. Not only is it one of my new favorite albums, but it has won over the hearts of countless people. "Badlands" is Halsey's first full-length album and has introduced her talent to the world. The success of this album as Halsey's debut has been astonishing and has provided the world with an amazing singer and songwriter.
1. "Blurryface" - twenty one pilots
I have been a fan of twenty one pilots since their album, "Vessel," so the release of "Blurryface" was highly anticipated for me. "Blurryface" exceeded every expectation I had for this album. One of my favorite things about this album is the cohesive theme. "Blurryface" refers to a character that personifies insecurities and self-doubt. Twenty one pilots did an amazing job of incorporating this theme into every track on the album. Another thing I loved about this album is the growth in fans it provided for the band. When they released "Vessel," twenty one pilots were still growing and starting to be noticed. When "Blurryface" was released, they blew up. People all over the world learned about them and started listening to them and supporting them. It has been amazing to watch this band grow from a first-act opener for Fall Out Boy to an internationally-known band that headlines Madison Square Garden. "Blurryface" is definitely one of my favorite albums of 2015 that deserves all of the hype it has received and more.
