We're all afraid of something. It could be spiders, heights, rejection, death, failure, the dark, spending the rest of your life alone, or not. Everyone has something that scares them more than anything, something with the power to keep you up at night or keep you from doing something out of fear for what could happen. You feel weak and powerless whenever you think about or experience this fear.

But what's so scary about all those things? What keeps driving fear into our minds?

The answer to that is doubt. Once we take our focus off God, we start to see the terrifying things we can't handle on our own. We start to frantically look around for something to make us feel better, causing us to teeter in faith. We're no longer trusting in the Lord to provide and protect us. Instead of keeping God first and letting him lead us on the path he chose for us, we start to let earthly worries take over. When we allow that happen, we forget that we are not fighting alone. We feel too small and too weak to face this fear, so we fall prisoner to it. We're no longer walking confidently towards our future with God, we're getting lost in our own fears.

How silly is that? We have an unrestricted, all-powerful God looking out for our every step and we don't trust him to take care of things. You are His precious child and He has promised that He will deliver you through any hardship you may face. He will strengthen you and uphold you with his righteous right hand. He is greater than any fear.

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." -Romans 8:38-39

Once you put full confidence in Him, your fears will be crushed with the comfort of his promises. Nothing is too much for you to handle when you have God at your side.

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9

Earthly anxieties are no match for the glories we'll be surrounded by in heaven. Your life here on Earth should not be spent trembling at things that won't matter after Judgment Day. Those fears have no power over your relationship with God. Your future will play out according to God's plan for you, you have absolutely no reason to worry because He is in complete control.

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." -John 14:27

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
