There are certain labels you can’t buy, and politician is one of them. You wouldn’t hire a businessman to preform your open-heart surgery just because he’s a good businessman.
Donald Trump’s success in his campaign for the Republican nomination has been a cause of concern for most, and for good reason. His blatantly racist platform and childish rhetoric overshadow the fact that he has few concrete positions or legitimate policy plans. The only argument most of his supporters have towards why Trump will be getting their vote is that he is wealthy and successful, which may not be entirely true.
In an episode of his late night talk show "Last Week Tonight," John Oliver outlined some of Trump’s past business ventures, most of which failed at a large cost to his partners. What most people don’t know about the Trump name is that most business and real estate developments are not even his own. He makes most of his money off of franchising his last name for other companies. The rest of his net value is mostly inheritance, which was not even invested wisely. He has attempted endeavors in the airline business and the casino business; he’s even tried creating his own label of vodka. All of these branches of his company tanked almost immediately.
Perhaps more relevant to the prospect of what we would actually be using him for, Donald Trump has absolutely no experience in politics aside from his push for Barack Obama to release his birth certificate, which hardly counts as actual politics. He doesn't even have the most basic understanding of the way our government is run, listing all the unjust policies he would enact under executive order rather than drafting actual bills that would reflect what the people want to see. Americans are meant to level with their politicians, not sit on the sidelines while the leader they choose acts on his own free will.
He isn’t new or refreshing, he’s terrifying.
Unfortunately, Trump is gaining a following in the deeper South and has been emerging victorious in the primaries in states like Georgia and South Carolina. Most of his supporters admit to not having taken much interest in politics prior to this election. They hopped on the bandwagon after media clutter surrounding his controversial campaign. Trump has been characterized as a strong speaker, with intentions of implementing a democratic reversal under the false pretense that he’s "Making America Great Again.”
While this all may seem repetitive of the content the liberal media has been producing at alarmingly rapid rates, it is all completely justified. Trump's wrath shows no signs of retreating anytime soon, which is why need to be paying attention now more than ever. As we get closer to the end of primary season, it is becoming more apparent that he may just have this in the bag. If you take nothing else away from this, remember that in almost all of our states, delegates are bound by law to vote with the decision of the popular vote, and, therefore, your vote does count. By casting your ballot, you are exercising freedom of speech to the fullest extent. Keep in mind that should we choose to bite our tongues now, we are less qualified to speak out when the Trump administration renders our opinions useless.
