Dear sibling (also known as the least favorite child),

Congratulations on making it out of high school alive! Surviving through it is a huge accomplishment. I cannot wait for you to start a new chapter in your life. Honestly, more like I can't wait to make fun of you for making the same rookie mistakes I did. As much as I can't wait for the jokes and banters, there is no way I'm letting you go to college without some useful tips.

1. Do not be in such a hurry to start college

You think college is all fun and games? Nope. You're about to have a lot more responsibilities.

2. But, if you're dreading for high school to end, your life is not over yet

Don't get stuck living in high school. There is a whole new world waiting for you.

3. Go to all the graduation parties that you're invited to

This is the last summer you're going to see everyone all at once. Don't think you're going to see them around as much as you think because you won't and that is the bittersweet reality.

4. Enjoy every moment you get to spend with your high school friends

Once you've all gone your separate ways, it is going to be hard to get everyone together again.

5. Just because you were a smart student throughout high school, it doesn't mean college will just be a breeze for you

You better start preparing yourself for the first F you're going to get. It's going to sting so much.

6. There's nothing wrong with calling Mom or Dad and just wanting to talk

It will make their day, trust me.

7. You might think you can do an 8 a.m. class, but you will regret it later on

You think you can do it because you survived four years of high school starting class at 7:30 in the morning? Oh, college will drain you faster.

8. Take your first year seriously and don't mess around too much

Balance is key. Learn it. Live it. Breathe it. Got it?

9. Take a weekend off and come home if you need to

You have to take a break every now and then before you lose your sanity.

10. Embrace being on your own but do not abuse your newfound freedom

Mom not being around to lecture you sounds like the greatest thing ever, right? Yeah, well, be careful because she won't be around to talk some sense into you.

11. Make friends in your classes, so you'll have people to study and suffer with through the class

It is the power move.

12. It's important for you to know your own limits

Whether it's academically overworking yourself or ending up in the hospital for alcohol poisoning, take care of yourself, bud.

13. Learn to do laundry but also to be patient because it will come in handy on most days

You have no idea how many people will test your patience every single day.

I hope you keep these piece of advice in mind when you start your new adventure. I mean, I'm always just a text or call away, but, you know me, I take two business days to reply. If you want to avoid getting picked on at the family holiday parties, just follow the tips I gave you. You might be the biggest pain in the butt, but I have faith in you, bud.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
