Grandparents are like another set of parents who spoil you more than your parents do. They are the best to have around when you had a terrible day or just want some homemade cookies. Grandparents have the best advice - period.

1. Believe in Jesus.

The most important aspect of our life has been that we are believers in Jesus. This impacts our life in a dimension whereby we naturally reach out beyond ourselves.

2. Find a church to be involved in.

That is especially important when you get married and start a family, but what better place to find a mate than in church anyway! While being a part of a church, you also have the ability to share your gifts that God has given you.

3. Serve others.

Serving others is a big part of my grandparents life. They were always willing to help others. You can serve others at church whether it is sharing God's word or using your gifts God has given you.

4. Be involved with international people.

My grandparents really enjoyed being around international people. They said it was great for their children at the time because they could interact with folks from many different cultures.

5. Take your kids places to get acquainted in different settings.

When my dad and his siblings were little, my grandparents took them everywhere like traveling or eating out. They wanted their kids to feel comfortable with the world as a whole. They also wanted them to know what it was to be socially adjusted in different settings.

6. Be part of a fellowship.

"Do not neglect attending church on a regular basis. When you have a family, they will do as you do. It’s okay to expect them to do things that they don’t want to do. Let them know that they are part of this family and they are expected to do what the family does." - Grandpa

7. Get to know new people.

Getting to know new people can benefit you in so many ways. They can become your best friend or someone who helps you get a better job. You never know!

8. Learn to love and accept difficult people.

There are difficult people all around us in our every day lives. We have to learn to deal with them and love them like God loves us.

9. Friends will propel you into your job and many aspects of life.

"Work at how to make friends, it’s a process but it will pay off many dividends." - Grandpa

10. Put others before what you want to do.

"That is especially true in relationships like marriage but in all relationships it is so important! As you know Scripture tells us to treat others as we want to be treated." - Grandma

11. Take a challenge to enter new settings because it is a blessing.

Jumping out of your comfort zone is a great start to meeting new people and having new experiences.

"New people open up your eyes to new experiences." - Grandpa

12. Date around and learn, listen and evaluate your mind.

A lot of people have dated at least one person and after that relationship, everyone has realized what things they want in their future wife or husband.

13. Don't be in a hurry to find the right guy right now.

"God has the right man for you out there, if that is his plan for you and you will meet him when the time is right for that! And keep yourself pure and holy for him alone for God’s glory in your relationship! It will be worth it all to wait to be intimate until your wedding night even though it seems everyone isn’t waiting! God will bless you for waiting!" - Grandma

14. Invite friends to your home.

Inviting friends, family, or new friends over to your house to hang out or eat a meal together strengthens your relationship with them.

15. Be diligent, work hard and ask advice.

"Asking someone for advice is a way of acknowledging that whoever you are asking is smarter than you are. You are giving them a compliment." - Grandpa

16. Listen to your parents.

Listening to your parents might seem like an over statement but your parents are only telling you things or punishing you for something because they are on your side and want you to be successful. They do not make the same mistakes that they did.

17. Be happy.

Being happy makes everything more fun! Always find time to be happy!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
