It's that time of year where young boys and girls enter a new chapter of their lives. College. Fresh eyes and anxious hearts to an exciting time in their lives. During this, some may forget some key objects their need in their dorms or didn't think of.
The first year of college isn't as you pictured. You'll feel lost and you'll second guess every move you make, more less in the class category. Am I in the right field? Am I prepared for this? It'll feel like all those years of school didn't prepare you for the "real world". It did, but this first year is the biggest step towards independence and responsibility.
Your professor will not hold your hand and remind you of due dates as much as your teachers did in high school. You get the holy grail syllabus week and you make sure you follow that to a T, unless they say otherwise. You need to write down all the due dates and test dates in a planner or post-its or a calendar, because you'll be overwhelmed.
As much as you think your first year will be easy, which I personally can't disagree with, you have to try. Your GPA is crucial and it is very, very hard to repair once classes lean on test grades and zero busy work points. That being said, sit towards the front of the class and take notes of what the professor is saying, not merely the powerpoint.
Besides school work, the Freshman 15 is a very real and scary thing. Whether you want to accept it or not you will gain weight by over drinking or over eating due to stressful times. And it's OK. This is the time to discover how you deal with the not the best circumstances regarding yourself.
Your views will change and maybe your morals/values. It's the time to discover who you are as a person without being sheltered by the walls of high school and peers. Be yourself to your full ability because this is you. You must also accept that not all your "besties" will remain your "besties" after your first year. You loss some and you gain some.
Don't stress the small stuff as their is so much college has to offer.
