As I sit in my room, studying for finals, all I can think about is getting out there. I want to go somewhere to have fun. Let's go to the mountains and go on a hike! Why don't we go get some ice cream or try that new restaurant in town? How about a spontaneous trip down to Florida and just sit on the beach for the long weekend? I am sure countless people have had the desire to just drop everything and run. Forget responsibilities and just adventure.
Adventure is something we all crave in our lives, especially when times are tough or we are ridiculously busy. It's important to take that time to explore the world though. Take time and go somewhere close. You don't have to travel all the way to Florida to have a good time. Try some of these places I am sure are within a 2 hour drive of your house.
1) Museum
Ever location in the United States has a museum somewhere close by. Whether it be an art museum, a science museum or a historical one. A day trip to the location will fill you with sights you couldn't see anywhere else and an important educational opportunity.
2) Park
No a park is not as exciting to venture to, but try looking for one that you haven't been to before. Visiting a new area will always give you that thrill of adventure you desire. Going somewhere new I am sure you will learn something and fulfill that wonder.
3) Outdoor Concert
These aren't as common in the winter time, but going to an outdoor concert is the most fun you can have while listening to music. Having to sit on the grass in a relaxing jazz concert can clear your mind like no other. If you're looking for some outrageous fun, then you might want to try a more popular outdoor concert, which may not be as far as you think.
4) Cabin in the Woods
Close by, in the hills of your woods, someone is bound to have a cabin for rent. For example, in West Virginia, there are hundreds of cabins for rent in the mountains. This provides a strong weekend getaway with opportunities to explore nature and maybe even get educated about the land while you're there.
5) Visit a River
I am sure there is some well-known river near your town that people tend to forget about or just think it's a river. However, anything with a memorable name is most likely attached to some sort of tourist attraction. This provides opportunity to explore a new location. Even if it's not a river, maybe it's a bridge or a train track, or even a dam. Any of these locations provide wonderful opportunity for adventure.
Adventure is just around the corner from where you are. You don't have to travel hundreds of miles to get to a beach, when a local lake could provide the same relaxing experience. Opportunities for adventure, and something different from your daily routine are all around you. You just have to be willing to look.
