For the first time in a while, I took a trip to Barnes and Noble in order to get my brother a graduation present: A Rick and Morty comic book. Arriving around 8:30 pm, I thought I only had a half an hour to get in and get out. Turns out, I had until 10 pm to indulge in the many rows of books. And boy did I take my time.

At first, I had no idea where to look for the comic. There had to be a comic section somewhere, right? When I finally found it, I skimmed through the different sections and they all related to superheroes so I figured it was somewhere else. After walking through the shelves, I gave up and asked someone who worked there. Sure enough, it was in the section I had just looked through; I missed it entirely.

Since I still had time to spare before checking out, I decided to look around. I love reading and I never seem it have enough time for it these days. I guess I should stop watching Netflix all the time and pick up a book every once and a while. I could quite literally spend a whole day inside of a bookstore or a library, looking from shelf to shelf, finding new books to add to my reading list. I usually go home with at least five or six books every time I go. More often than not, I’m not able to read them all by the time it’s time to renew but at least I have the option to pick one up whenever I want.

While looking at the teen fiction section, I found a new author to look into and a reminder to go to the library when I get home. There are so many options and always more to come. I can’t wait to search for my next escape.

Following the teen section, I made my way to the poetry. I’ve always enjoyed poems because they let you see inside someone’s soul, usually finding the darkness that consumes them. Hidden metaphors and similes flow on the pages waiting for those who share their feelings to come along and read them. That’s exactly what I did.

I read a whole book before the store closed. Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur has been on my reading list for a while now and I got to cross it off by finishing the entire thing in one sitting in a bookstore. It wasn’t what I had planned for my night but I wouldn’t change it. I loved every minute of it.

Along with opening my eyes to the world of books once again, I also realized that a date to the bookstore would be a perfect date. Finding someone who enjoys books just as much as I do would be amazing, regardless of what genre they’re interested in. I want to see their eyes light up when they talk about their favorite book, retelling the story from their point of view. Different people can read the same book and get a different interpretation. One of the many reasons I find books fascinating.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
