Adulting (v): to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown ups.
I've lived in my first home for almost two weeks now and I already "can't even."
I've spent about $200 on groceries and necessities, I'm sleeping on an air mattress, and I'm taking 3 online classes without wifi currently (I don't know why I did this to myself, honestly). Luckily, I just got a job for the first time in almost 2 years to save my parents bank accounts but I also plan on opening my own soon as well, since my bank isn't down where I live! There's so much to be done and just not enough time to get it done in, but at least I'm being independent... kind of. There's honestly so many pros and cons to being on your own and learning to adult at 20-years-old... and now for the moment you've all been waiting for... *drum roll* the pros and cons of adulting!
Let's start off on a more positive, less stressful note...
Pros:
- You decide when the appropriate times are to watch Netflix instead of doing your homework.
- You're able to walk around in your underwear and scream/sing with no judgment.
- ADOPT ALL THE FUR BABIES THAT YOUR HEART DESIRES.
- You can wake up and go to bed whenever you want.
- You finally don't have to share your shower with anyone.
- I don't have to share anything.
- You can go wherever you want, whenever you want.
- Being able to have Coke and pizza nights on your couch and not be disturbed.
- You literally have all the freedom and independence your little heart can handle.
Cons:
- You have to pay for everything by yourself. No help from mommy and daddy.
- You have to skip going out with your friends on the weekends because you have work in the morning.
- Bills, bills, bills. BILLS EVERYWHERE YOU TURN.
- You have to do your own laundry.
- You have to do the dishes.
- You actually have to clean up after yourself, otherwise you're going to turn into a complete slob and no one is going to want to come over and hang when you’re lonely.
- You have to get a job, whether that be a big-person job or a part-time job, they both suck.
- You eventually will have to care for another human being, which is so terrifying to you because you can hardly take care of yourself.
Moral of the story, adulting SUCKS. It’s a difficult thing to get into to habit of, especially if mommy and daddy have done just about everything for you your entire life (Ha, like me).
So heres to all the college students/newly graduates who should probably start learning to adult right away. Otherwise, life is going to get difficult. Good luck!
