Say “hello” to the new Adele.
I woke from my peaceful slumber on Friday, October 23, unaware at first that the moon landing of the music world had occurred. Adele had finally graced us with her first single in three years, and it was definitely worth the wait.
The "Hello" music video unsurprisingly took up space on every social media platform. Between the heartbreaking lyrics and her impossible singing talent, "Hello" is already a power ballad that every person will be blasting and singing along to in the car for a long time.
A mere 54 hours after the video was released it surpassed 50 million views. And then 72 hours after the video was released it had over 67 million views. Given, at least half of that was me—but still an impressive victory.
At this rate, Adele’s new song will reach 100 million views in about 7 days, making it the third-fastest video to ever reach 100 million views (behind Miley Cyrus’ "Wrecking Ball" and Psy’s "Gentlemen"). She’d be beating out Taylor Swift’s "Blank Space," Nicki Minaj’s "Anaconda," and Wiz Khalifa’s "See You Again." And this is only one song off of her upcoming album.
Her new album "25" comes out on November 20 and it will be sure to break records. If this single is any indication of what to expect from Adele’s new album, she should probably start writing her Grammy acceptance speeches now.
The resurgence of Adele has been long awaited. Her music is as popular as it is masterful. You will hear each song on Top 40 radio, but it will no doubt be one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the past decade. Adele’s music knows no bounds and resonates with almost every human.

Adele is our modern-day Ella Fitzgerald or Whitney Houston. Vary rarely does the music industry experience a singer that is so captivating in pop culture and immensely talented. As sad as I am to have had a three-year Adele drought, I recognize that her artistry cannot be produced in a single year or on a normal timetable.
One thing is for sure: this Thanksgiving I know what I will say I am most thankful for at my family’s traditional turkey dinner. The skies have opened and Adele has released new music into this world. All is good once again.
So please excuse me as I listen to "Hello" on repeat until November 20.
