Ever since I heard their break-out songs, "Breakeven (Falling To Pieces)" and "The Man That Can't Be Moved," I've been hooked. The only things that are stopping me from going to a concert of theirs is lack of money (broke college student here) and lack of concerts in Iowa or surrounding states.
Recently, I started an artist radio of them on Spotify, and it's all I listen to anymore. Here are 10 songs I've come across that you need to have on repeat.
1. "Superheroes"
It's from their ‘No Sound Without Silence' album (which is bomb, btw.) This song is catchy! It's all about facing and overcoming adversity, even when odds are stacked against you, proof that not all superheroes wear capes.
2. "If You Could See Me Now"
This is a powerful song (with a couple swear words, just to warn you). Even though the song seems to be intended for parents that have gone on, it's has a broader brush stroke including all of the loved ones taken from you.
3. "No Good In Goodbye"
This song is also from their ‘No Sound Without Silence' album. I appreciate this song for it's taking words and twisting them in a lyrical way. It's makes me wonder about the words within the words, and the meaning they have.
4. "Six Degrees of Separation"
Warning: contains swear words. With this song, they take the view of a breakup and flip it. There are many songs out there about the heartbreak from the one who was broken up with. This one tells the story from someone who did the breaking up. One word to describe this one: poignant.
5. "Man On A Wire"
I watched the music video through my fingers because I was so scared the whole time that he would fall. It's hard for me to say this song is specifically about a break-up, because I believe it can be applied to other things. Take a listen, and decide for yourself.
6. "Flares"
This song is also from their ‘No Sound Without Silence' album. It's about the "light at the end of the tunnel". It's asking those who feel like their drowning in pain and suffering if they seen the "flares" and letting them know they are not alone.
7. "It's Not Right For You"
This ‘No Sound Without Silence' song tells us that it's not too late to fight for the life you want and deserve. It can be applied to a multitude of things: jobs, relationships, personal growth, etc. It's the eloquent of saying "YOLO".
8. "Without Those Songs"
This brings to mind music's finest: how they lived, their pain, their everything, and how they took those feelings and thoughts and experiences and put it into the songs we are still singing today. It's asking us where would the world be without the songs that changed the world.
9. "Never Seen Anything 'Quite Like You'"
A love song through and through for me. It's about looking at that person and thinking of all the times you've seen them; and there's one common element: them and their wonderful, imperfect self.
10. "The Energy Never Dies"
This isn't just a love song. It speaking of the energy, the love, never dies if someone passes on or their days suddenly numbered. Love doesn't stop; it's an energy that can't be stopped.
Obviously there are many more songs I wish I could have added to this, but I want you to discover the others for yourself.
