She has written the most heartfelt and romantic stories. In every novel or film adaptation, you will laugh, cry and scream for joy when the couple finally realizes they are made for each other. People around the world all want a Mr. Darcy for themselves (including myself.) She never married, but was once in love. You should watch "Becoming Jane" to witness her epic love story. If you haven't guessed yet, I am referring to the magnificent and brilliant novelist Jane Austen. Many directors have created film adaptations for her novels and the following are my favorite ones:
"Pride and Prejudice," 2005
Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen were destined to play the roles of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. While I do appreciate Collin Firth as Mr. Darcy, I just love the 2005 version due to the music and acting.
"Emma," 2009
While this version is a lot longer than the 1996 movie with Gwytheth Paltrow, you will love the all four hours of it. It brilliantly captures Austen story's with amazing actors and actresses. Also, I just think Jonny Lee Miller is dreamy.
"Northanger Abbey," 2011
Oh, J.J. Field. He is a beautiful human being. He is even in Austenland which tells the story of a woman who goes to an Austen theme park. It is a delighted romantic story that will warm your heart.
"Persuasion," 2007
Austen's story where two lovers get a second chance to be together is brilliantly adapted in this film. While it is slow at times and very suspenseful, it is worth the wait.
"Sense and Sensibility," 2008
Did you know Matthew Crowley from "Downton Abbey" is in this film adaptation? I know, it took me a second to recognize him.
"Mansfield Park," 1999
Alessandro Nivola. That is all I need to say.
For your next girls night or even when you just need a little Austen in your life, watch one of these brilliant film adaptations. They entertain you from start to finish. They beautifully capture Austen's timeless works.
