It's that time of winter break between Christmas and New Year's where college students around the country are all ready to get back to school already. Their days are getting boring, they miss their friends, and things at home just aren't the same as they are at school.
Meals
At home: Meals consist of your mom asking you to pick up after yourself and reminding you of all of the thank you cards that you still need to write. Although you're eating food that's actually of nutritious value, you kind of miss the gross food served at the Union at school.
At school: A typical meal is either eaten in front of a computer screen, finishing homework, watching TV or surrounded by friends. And you're probably eating something fried and covered in cheese.
Laundry
At home: The first few days of break your parents gladly did all of your laundry and left it folded and smelling like lavender on your bed. But now that we're a few weeks in, they've started getting mad at you for mooching off of them and are forcing you to learn how your washing machine works.
At school: Basically, you just throw in all of your dirty clothes once you're out of clean underwear, set the washing machine on cold and hope for the best.
Parties
At home: It's great to see your hometown friends all together again. And when someone throws a party, everyone shows up. You all gather around a bonfire or in someone's kitchen and make small talk for a few hours. Since Uber is ridiculously cheap when you're taking it in your hometown, you end up in your own bed safe and sound. You'll probably end up texting your ex-hookup and crying to your best friend about how much you've missed her, but parties at home are just like old times.
At school: Most of your time is spent not knowing where to go or who to talk to. You dance with your friends, and even if you're not sure why, you always have a good time.
Sleeping
At home: You are free to sprawl out as you wish on the fluffy cloud that is your mattress. There is no fear of ever being cold because your comforter serves as a layer of soft warmth. You could stay there forever.
At school: You're forced onto a little twin mattress and whenever your roommate(s) gets up, you get up. Even though sleeping arrangements are a little annoying, there's never a dull moment when you're living with people you love.
Seeing someone awkward from your past in public
At home: Make a mad dash for the nearest structure that you can hide behind and crouch until you're 100 percent sure they're out of sight. No matter how long it takes.
At school: Your heart skips a beat for a second. But then you just shoot them a casual smile and keep walking as if nothing had ever happened.
