It is undeniable that most people believe whole-heartedly that 2016 was a year of mass chaos. There were tragic events that occurred one after another this past year; celebrities that we all loved and adored passed away, our precious Harambe had his life cut short at the Cincinnati Zoo (the jokes are getting really old guys - leave them in 2016 please), and the elections caused a deeper cut through our ever-present opinionated divide. And although it has made it hard to stay positive at times, moping around about our tragedies will not make them magically get better. So, in light of everything bad that has happened this year, let's take a moment to appreciate just a few of the countless great things that happened/went right in the year 2016.
1. Populations for species such as pandas, manatees, and tigers are steadily growing.
2. India had over 800,000 volunteers who replanted 50 million trees in 24 hours.
3. Thanks to a bunch of people dunking buckets of ice water onto their heads, we've discovered a gene that is frequently linked with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
4. The Chicago Cubs finally broke their curse and won the World Series.
5. "Finding Dory," "Moana," "Zootopia," "Captain America" - the list could go on when talking about all the great movies we got.
6. Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar Award.
7. The unemployment rate is lower than it has been in nine years.
8. Harriet Tubman, along with many other influential people, were all chosen to become familiar faces on American currency in the year 2020.
9. Harry Potter has brought back happiness with its new counterparts it has released.
10. World hunger is at the lowest its been in 25 years.
11. A solar-powered plane circumnavigated the world.
Let's all make 2017 the year that we focus on the great accomplishments we've unveiled instead of all the negativity that the media tries to prioritize in our lives.
