Take a moment and stop to think about what an outstanding college Clemson University actually is. What popped into your head first? Football? Tillman Hall? Bowman Field? Lake Hartwell? Downtown Clemson? Academic opportunity? Beautiful campus? Whatever it was, I think we can all agree Clemson University is truly a special place. I mean the students are even ranked among the nations happiest. Unfortunately, I never imagined I would ever get the chance to experience everything Clemson has to offer.
It's no secret Clemson is a competitive school to get into. The academic program is rigorous and super competitive. I was always in the top ten of my graduating class, I was a member of various clubs, and I played varsity basketball all throughout high school. However, something inside of me just knew I would never be good enough for Clemson. I didn't grow up bleeding orange and attending every football game. My SAT score was far below what I expected a student at Clemson University to make. I just knew I would have to go out of state to pursue my degree.
When it came time to apply to colleges I applied to NC State, University of Tennessee, and just for the heck of it, I applied to Clemson. Weeks went by as I watched my friends receive their acceptance letters into Clemson and I was slowly completely losing hope. After I received my acceptance letter from the University of Tennessee I figured I could still rock the color orange even if it was for the Vols instead of the Tigers. I had completely given up on the idea of going to Clemson and I knew Tennessee would be my home for the next four years. Fortunately, God had other plans.
Just a few weeks later I received my acceptance letter from Clemson into the animal science program. Just when I had completely given up and chosen to attend the University of Tennessee, Clemson chose me to be apart of their family. Just like that my dreams came true, and I was given the opportunity to attend the greatest college in the world.
Fast forward a few months later and I am currently packing up my belongings to move into Clemson. Not only do I get to live in the newest dorms, but I get to experience this journey with one of my best friends from high school. I am tiger town-bound in less than a week and I couldn't be more excited for what these next four years have to offer. Thank you, Clemson, you're a lifesaver!
