How Do I Accept Myself?

The world is so full of judgment and stereotypes, how can anyone learn to accept who they are?

Every person on this planet is unique in their own way. Differences aren't something to be ashamed of, they are something to be proud of. I will be the first to admit, I can have a very low self-confidence level most of the time and struggle with it daily. And personally, I don't think that's right, having a low self-confidence level is something that no person should ever have to deal with, yet I can almost guarantee that at least once a day, each and every one us struggle with it at some point.

This world is so full of sterotypes and false advertising, it's just awful. I'm not just talking about body image, but about religion, and race, and sex and everything else under the sun. Everyone is a victim in some way, and that just isn't right. We live in an extremely judgmental world and are constantly trying to earn the approval and acceptance of those around us, all while trying to accept ourselves in the process.

That really is the hardest part though, trying to accept ourselves... When we're younger we're told that all you have to do is be yourself and be happy, yet, as you get older, it is so easy to lose yourself among the sea of people all trying to be accepted by society and you lose your happiness. As you get older is can be so hard to find who you really are and find what makes you happy, and that is a big problem.

It can be so hard to find who you want to be and be happy with yourself when you have the voices of those around you telling you that you will never be good enough, or pretty enough, or smart enough. But the one thing that can be worse than the voices around you, are the voices in your head. We are so mean to ourselves it's not even funny. To quote Taylor Swift, "When it comes to how we see ourselves, other people are mean, but we're really mean to ourselves."

We are constantly comparing ourselves with others, but the thing is, we only see what others want us to see, just like when others see you, they only see the things you want them to see. We are human beings, we live, we make mistakes, it's in our nature, that doesn't mean we are damaged or a failure, just that we are human. Everyone is perfect in their own way, and the world needs to see that.

We need to end the stereotypes and the judgement and turn it into compliments and love for everyone. We are all created equal. It doesn't matter what color your skin is, or what religion you believe in, man or woman, tall or short, thick or skinny, we are all equal. Let's start acting like it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
