Lately, Aaron Carter has been doing the most on Twitter. While it seems he is just trying to promote his new and upcoming music, he has also been going on major follow sprees. Is he being hacked? Well, that was the exact same question I asked myself when I got a notification saying that Aaron Carter follows me. Like, what?
Talk about random, but not really, at the same time. You see, Aaron had been following a handful of my friends that attend Coastal Carolina University lately, and my inner eight-year-old self was a bit jealous. Why was I not being invited to Arron's Twitter party? So, I tweeted at him, saying "@aaroncarter has been going a follow spree lately and following all of my friends, but hasn't followed me... Sry I'm not better looking." About five seconds after I sent that tweet, I was notified that he now follows me. Of course, then I went to his page to make sure it was the verified account, and to my surprise, it was. I checked out the people he follows and noticed that after he followed my account, he continued this unusual follow spree by following about eight of my other Twitter friends. So weird.
Instantly, all of my friends were tweeting up a storm, letting the world know that the "That's How I Beat Shaq" singer follows them. My timeline was full of screenshots of the musician's social media page with the words "Aaron Carter follows you" for everyone to see. Even though Aaron hasn't had a hit single in a long time, the attention from a Backstreet Boy's little brother had every 20-something-year-old girl feeling extremely nostalgic. My friends and I laughed about the whole situation and went back to the early 2000s real quick, talking about how much we used to love him. We remembered one of our favorite "Lizzie McGuire" episodes, where Aaron guest starred and sang "I Want Candy," and it was the best Christmas episode ever! My roommate got giddy as she strolled down memory lane and remembered her first ever concert, where she saw him at the state fair. To this day, I still wish I would have been invited to Aaron's party. Oh, how time flies.
His account could easily be hacked, or it could not be. Either way, he has been a hot topic of conversation with his random follow sprees lately. Even though he's not an A list celebrity, he was my childhood crush, and I thank him for making my inner eight-year-old self the happiest little girl on the planet. Keep up the crazy social media behavior, Aaron. All of your once number one fans still love you!
