I grew up with two of the best parents. Sure, they were divorced but that didn't stop them from working together to make sure we had everything we needed in life. Now being so far from them, I have realized how much they truly do for me, and I will forever be in debt to their love and support. This isn't nearly enough to show my appreciation, but I still wanted to thank them.
Dear Mom and Dad,
You may be surprised to be seeing this.. A formal letter in today's day and age? What a shocker!
Well this is the least that you deserve. I remember that look of pride and joy on your faces at graduation, as I was about to close one door in life, and start a new one. I was excited to start on this new journey in August. But I was also terrified. What was I going to do without my two best friends by my side, every step of the way. I had never thought about how much I rely on you growing up, because you've always been there.. whether I liked it or not.
But then I realized I'd be fine. And that's only because of you two. You raised me to be a strong, independent, woman who can succeed on her own. But that didn't change the fact I was still nervous.
I had a hard first semester-adjusting to this new lifestyle and workload, and being over 600 miles away from my family definitely wasn't helping. Sure we talked almost everyday on the phone, but it's just not the same. But still I survived, because I knew I had to make you proud. I know you know I had a hard time adjusting, and that you worry and stress about my happiness and mental health, but just know I am doing well.. Because of you. Sometimes all I need, after a long stressful day, is to hear my parent's voices. And you never fail me with that.
Here I am, about to start my second semester of freshman year, and I am sitting here in tears because of my love for you. Without your endless love and support in everything I have ever done in life I wouldn't be here without you. And I know I don't say it nearly enough, but thank you. Thank you for supporting my choices in life. Whether it be about school, sports, my future, etc. you are always on my side. When you had to take me from school to practice, to my jobs, to a band concert, you never complained. Thank you for teaching me that family always comes first, and will always have my back. You are my best friends, who I can talk to about anything and can get the best advice from. Thank you for not just supporting me in the things I do, but for supporting me financially. Without your dedication and hard work in your jobs, I wouldn't be here, in my dorm writing this. I wouldn't have nearly a good enough future without you. I could go on forever, about how thankful I am and it still wouldn't be enough. But for now, I hope this will do.
Thank you for being two of the best parents in the world, and for always being there when I need it most.
Love,
Your Daughter
