A Letter to WV Teachers

A second state-wide strike should not be necessary to give our educators what they deserve.

A Letter to WV Teachers

To the teachers of West Virginia,

Thank you so much for all that you do, both for your students, fellow teachers, and everyone you meet. Teaching is a task only for the strong, being able to connect to students and supply them with the information they need in order to move on, not only in school, but in life.

It is teachers that give everyone the opportunity to grow up to be whatever they want to be. Without great teachers like you, there could be no doctors, researchers, businesses, etc. You are at the heart of modern society, no matter you get the proper recognition for it or not. You build the hearts and minds of West Virginia's youth.

Public schools were implemented for the first time in 1821, nearly 200 years ago. These two hundred years have seen some of the greatest advances in modern technology, business, education, medicine, etc. These advances would be impossible without a proper foundation in the youth of some of our greatest achievers. It was teachers, like you, that taught and inspired students to go on and achieve these great things.

Please do not give up the fight for what you deserve. Public schools have given the opportunity of education for all students in West Virginia for so many years. No matter a child's background, they were given the chance to get a solid education from an early age to allow them to go on and thrive in their own lives.

Your experience and educational achievements also do not go unrecognized. Being a college student myself, the work put in just to get the chance to become a teacher is difficult. So many hours studying, observing, and perfecting teaching strategies to use in your own classroom one day is no easy task. Thank you for working so hard to be able to provide us with such a great education and base to go on and achieve great things as well.

All in all, thank you so much for everything you have given to the students and youth in West Virginia so far, and those you will continue to impact in the future. The students, past and present, in West Virginia, as well as supporters from other states, support you all 100% and hope this battle is very short and turns out in your favor.

Thank you SO MUCH, and you are so loved! Do not give up!

Sincerely,

The Students of West Virginia

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
