Most girls have a few girlfriends who they will tell anything and everything to as soon as it happens. They divulge about their favorite shows, school, and some topics that are a lot more personal. Sometimes, these things can even be difficult to tell a close family member.
When a guy comes along that you feel like you can trust as much as you do your mother, sister, or female best friend, it feels like one of the biggest blessings. Here are a handful of the many reasons why you should be thankful for your best friend who is a guy.
1. You feel comfortable around him.
You don't feel pressured to act like a lady and you barely hesitate to unleash your inner tomboy in his presence. You tell him secrets and aren't afraid to use crude humor even if it makes him uncomfortable sometimes.
2. Your other friends think you should date him, and strangers think you are dating.
That's even if you are currently dating someone else. They persistently advise you to dump your boyfriend, and you are never sure if they are kidding or not. Either way, he is always good for warding off creeps. He usually spots them a mile away before you do.
3. You use each other as headrests. You stayed up too late, something terrible happened, or you feel overworked, and caffeine isn't helping. No medicine is better than a shoulder to lean on.
4. He is the only exception to your creed since childhood that says "boys are dumb and gross."
Although you've outgrown that phrasing, the basic concept still applies, even to your significant other.
5. You have thought about dating him at least once (even if one or both of you are gay).
You hear all the time about women marrying their best friends, but you also hear a multitude about men that reside in the friend-zone for eternity.
6. You call each other names like 'bro' and 'dude.'
At this point, you may have forgotten each others' real names. You might have to think a minute to remember even if you have known each other for years. On top of that, you have a secret mantra you both use to wish each other good luck and maybe a secret handshake, too.
7.You trust him.
As with anyone, this fact is limited. After all, guys can be pretty reckless. There is a reason women live longer than men. But you do trust them to recommend good games, shows, and books. Not to mention they are reliable in those moments when you can't protect yourself. They are sort of like the big brother you never had, especially if they are actually older than you.
8. He embraces your awkward moments or doesn't draw attention to them. Considering that there have been plenty and there are many more to come, this really means a lot. If you get embarrassed, he'll act silly right along with you.
9. He asks you for help, and vice versa.
If you know anything, it's that many guys have a hard time asking for or admitting they need help. Most of the help he asks you for is advice about anything from girls to dancing to fashion, but hey, it's a start. You have trained him so well that other people have started to wonder if he's playing for the other team.
10. You bug and tease each other relentlessly.
It can even come down to "playfully" hitting each other. Sometimes it gets pretty cruel, but you both know you'd never mean to hurt one another or each others' feelings.
11. Seeing or hearing from him makes your day.
Like any best friend, there is a reason you chose them to be so involved in your day-to-day life. You couldn't imagine losing them. That means even if their shenanigans can get a little tedious some days.
