9 Things You Took For Granted Before College

These things are easily overlooked, but really are the things that make life a whole lot easier.

9 Things You Took For Granted Before College

Before we got to college, we were so excited to finally get away from the things that annoyed us the most. Since we've been living here, we realized those annoying things are actually luxuries that we didn't realize we would miss.

1. Laundry

Let's just take a second to thank whoever invented laundry detergent pods. It makes carrying your basket of clothes down three flights of stairs and having to wait for the machines a little less dreadful.

2. Pets

Sleeping with your pillow pets just isn't the same as having your furry friends there to wake you up in the morning.

3. Closet Space

Switching out your wardrobe for different seasons is one of the most stressful things because what if you need to have that floral tank top for something? You never know! The clothes all end up on the floor anyway because choosing an outfit is never easy.

4. Your own bed/room

If you're lucky enough to have good roommates, it isn't too bad most of the time, but sometimes you just want your own space. Your privacy is something you don't realize you loved until you move into a dorm.

5. Home cooked food

Your mom's Sunday breakfast and your Dad's grilled chicken have never tasted better than when you go home for the weekend and finally get away from dining hall food.

6. Baths

Nothing is as nice as a nice warm bubble bath after a long day. Lush bath bombs just don't work in small square showers.

7. Driving

Most freshmen don't have their cars, and if you do, you have to park 20 miles from the dorms. Jam sessions in your room aren't as great as in the car with your best buds.

8. Dishwasher

Trying to wash your ramen cooker and plastic utensils in the bathroom sink isn't as easy as it seems.

9. Money

If you have a job in high school, you're basically rich because you don't have such large expenses. Then, you have to spend $400-$500 on books and lab coats and there you are, cringing to look at your bank account.

If you're reading this and you don't have these small struggles, consider yourself lucky, and take advantage of the little things while you have the chance.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
