9 Things That Cause Cancer But Will Not Stop Me From Living My Life

Recently, everyone has been abuzz about the World Health Organization recently declaring that bacon and other processed meats cause cancer. Many people have lamented this new information because it prompts them to give up the delicious taste of bacon forever. Others take in this information, process it, and eventually decide that this will not stop them from enjoying the deliciousness that is bacon. I am one of those people that will not let their life be controlled by such information.

It seems like everything around us causes cancer somehow. Rather than give up everything we love because of one study, it is better to try and live life with the thought “everything in moderation.” There are probably a lot of people out there right now who are cringing at the thought of never eating bacon again and who are probably going through a hard time as they deal with this decision. In attempt to show my support for those people, here are nine things that cause cancer in everyday life that should not stop us from living:

1. Bacon

Obviously this is number one on the list. I honestly feel sorry for vegetarians everywhere, because they are missing out on this tastiness.

2. Sun

The UV light of the sun, if you decided to sleep on a beach with no sunscreen on 24/7, would kill you eventually. Nature hates us.

3. Water

The arsenic in drinking water has been identified as a cause of cancer as well. Now we have checked off two of the essential needs of human beings as causers of cancer: sunlight and water. It seems Mother Nature really is out to get us.

4. Alcoholic beverages

I mean alcohol already has such a long list of bad things associated with it so I am not too surprised that cancer is one of them. However, do not worry fellow college students, I am sure it will never happen to us.

5. Microwaves

The radiation coming out of that thing might cause cancer, but am I really going to give up the great feeling of watching and hearing my popcorn pop? The answer is no.

6. Chimney sweeping

Have you ever had a dream to be Bert from Mary Poppins? Or one of Santa’s helpers? Well, if you lived your life by every single scientific study that came out, your dream would be dead. Because, yes, chimney sweeping causes cancer.

7. Furniture and cabinet making

I have no idea why but apparently this causes cancer…This is why we can’t have nice things.

8. Birth control

All attempts to be responsible are being ridiculed by Nature. Good luck with the next baby boom everyone.

9. Trying to become the Hulk

So, I am going to backtrack and actually recommend that no one pursue this dream seriously. Gamma radiation = bad. So all you mega fans out there, remember that gamma radiation does not actually turn you into a large, green, super strong and scary monster. It straight up just kills you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
