Being under 5' 3" definitely has it perks like never having to worry that you'll be too tall in heels or always being in the front of pictures. However like most things, being short does have its drawbacks such as being mistaken for a middle school student when you're actually in college. Even though these drawbacks may seem funny or cute to others, short people have seen them many times. Here are just a few of the many problems that people who are short are tired of others doing and saying.

1. Your head is automatically an arm rest

People who are taller than me automatically assume they can use my head as an arm rest. No, I'm sorry it's actually not cute or funny like you think, it is actually kind of annoying!

2. Always being called "cute"

I always get the same reaction from people when they find out I'm actually a lot older than I look. It's always "aw, you are so cute". Sorry, but I am not a puppy I am actually an adult!

3. Kids are as tall as you

It seems the older I get, the taller kids are. So of course since I am the same height as most kids over the age of six people assume I am the same age as them. Guess being mistaken for a middle school kid comes with the territory.

4. Not being able to reach anything

Oh the constant battle all short people are familiar with, not being able to reach things. My kitchen cabinets become my own personal jungle gym since I can't reach the top shelf. I even have to resort to standing in shopping carts to reach the top shelves while grocery shopping.

5. Can still fit in shopping carts

Not only do I have to stand in shopping carts to reach top shelves, but I also have the luxury of still being able to fit in them.

6. Always have to be measured before going on rides at amusement parks

Unfortunately, getting older doesn't mean you stop getting your height measured at amusement parks when you're short. Before going on roller coasters, most short people endure the annoyance of getting measured before being able to ride any rides.

7. Hearing the same short jokes

Being short comes with many jokes about your height. Yes, we have heard them all and no, they actually aren't funny.

8. People always want to pick you up

Short people are all too familiar with people having the urge to pick you up or carry you. I'm an adult I really don't want to be carried I can walk by myself.

9. Your feet don't touch the ground when you're sitting

The struggle of your feet never touching the ground whenever you sit down. On the bright side, you can swing them when you're bored.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
