9 Things OSU Beavers Can Look Forward To Spring Term

Spring break is over and spring term has started.

Back to books and studying and nights in the library; the next few months bring warmer and sunnier days and these offer a break from all of the old, dusty books. So, while the term is still new, take some time to plan out your weekend getaways and to pick your favorite day drinking song, 'cause spring term in Corvallis is the best one of them all.

Sunny days.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, sunny days are a precious commodity. And when they come around during the chilly winter months, you can expect to see a myriad of dog-walkers and bicyclists combing the streets soaking up some sunshine.

Spring brings with it longer and sunnier days, satisfying our deprived Oregonian skin and breathing new life and energy into daily activities—walking to class now seems a little more enjoyable, waking up is a little easier, and beer tastes a little better.

Spring Fashion

The best part of spring is the fashion.

Sundresses, blouses, button-down sweaters, and floppy hats... spring fashion can evoke the most feminine of wardrobes and nostalgia for the days of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly.

This year, look for pieces in shades of pistachio, peach, China blue, blue hydrangea, hot pink, marigold, and blue mint.

Baseball

America's pastime.

Here in Corvallis, our Beavers are ranked third in the nation, giving us pretty high stakes and lots of school pride. The warm days of spring and early summer pair perfectly with a cool and crisp beer and an afternoon of baseball with friends.

Shorts Weather

The first day of spring has come and gone, and as we head into early April, the warm days will provide for short-shorts and tank tops. Whether it's muscles on men or a flawless pair of legs on a woman, or vice-versa, everyone loves a little skin.

The first weekend in April is projected to be in the low 70s, the first of its kind for the year. Take advantage of the light workload and go out into the warm and breezy days to explore and enjoy the beautiful place we live in.

Bikini Season

Ah, bikini season; it is quite possibly my favorite of all the seasons.

The warm weather prompts thoughts of itty-bitty triangle bikinis and all the fun that comes with them, from backyard barbecues and weekend trips to the beach to afternoon naps in the sun and lakeside cabins.

Bikini season is the official start of the warm weather months. And have no fear—while the thought of donning a bikini in front of people might be daunting, remember that confidence is 80 percent of what makes a person attractive. Wear what makes you comfortable and love yourself.

Day Fades

Perhaps the most anticipated point of spring term, day fades bring people together to celebrate the warm and wonderful season and drink a lot of alcohol. Any given Friday or Saturday morning, you can find a range of music—from country to EDM—blasting out of the windows and from the front lawns of homes all across Corvallis.

You will probably find yourself waking up earlier on Saturdays; this is to be expected and thoroughly enjoyed.

Shasta

Okay. Shasta is pretty much the Vanity Fair Oscar Party of day fades and you've probably been planning for it since week two of winter term.

If you've never been before, Shasta is a wonderful weekend in May in which nearly 1,000 Oregon State students head south to Lake Shasta, California for three day long party on house boats and the lakes many islands. And some of your friends have probably been talking about their "Shasta-sizing," and in a few short weeks, all of those tedious hours in the gym will be worth it.

Note: Shasta is something I think everyone should do at least once, so if you get the opportunity, you should definitely go.

Spring Romance

With the blooming of flowers and the hatching of baby birds also comes budding romances (yes, pun intended). Spring carries with it the potential for new and exciting love and dating—as the school year comes to end and people move in different directions, they often fall into committed and enduring relationships. Spring is the time of rejuvenation and growth and new opportunity, so it's natural for love to be on the brain.

Don't be surprised if you see a lot of new relationships pop up on your News Feed in the next few months.

Graduation

Perhaps the most important part of spring term, graduation is the finish line at the end of the race that is these four years. As every college senior knows, the last term is the hardest and, quite possibly, the best. It's your last chance not to screw it all up; you're expected to find a job, and all you want to do is stay in this magical and sheltered place with your friends.

Have no fear, you're going to be great, and there will be alcohol at the end of the ceremony.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
