9 Things I Need To Get Through The School Year

This is my very short, very important, survival kit for college.

Without these 9 things, I doubt I would be getting through school right now:

1. My family

Without my parents, sister, grandparents, and everyone else, I wouldn't be able to get through school period. I'd have no financial or emotional support, and I think that that would be insanely difficult.

2. Coffee

I am awful at waking up. Not only in the morning, but from naps as well. It doesn't matter if I go to bed early, or if I get 1 hour of sleep. I will not be able to get up before 10 in the morning. This has unfortunately caused a caffeine addiction that I make no apologies for.

3. My friends

Without my friends, both at home and at school, I think I would be a bundle of stress 24/7. There's nothing more relieving than closing my laptop to take a study break and walking into the common room to goof off for an hour or two.

4. Netflix

I can 110% guarantee everyone that reads this that you are nodding your head in agreement right now. What's more important: learning how to find cost of goods sold, or finding out if Lucas Scott called Peyton Sawyer or Brooke Davis at the airport?

5. More coffee

College brings out my inner Lorelai Gilmore. I need coffee DAILY and I can't stress that fact enough.

6. Lots and lots of blankets.

Not only is the suite I live in extremely cold, but I am a serial napper. I need to be cozy and bundled up while watch my shows and sip my coffee.

My roommate, Dori, is the perfect example of what we all look like when we're in our suite.

7. Wings

I already wrote an entire article on how much I love wings. I don't think I need to elaborate on this even a little bit. I love buffalo chicken more than I love myself, and I would be dead not only in school, but in general, without chicken in my life.

8. My laptop

My Mac is my favorite possession at school. I need it for homework, for writing my articles, and for social media. So, let's be real, this one was a given survival tool.

9. COOOOOFFFFFEEEEEEEE

By now, you get the point. I have a caffeine problem. I can't even apologize.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
