As a Duquesne student, there are hundreds of resources at your disposal between everything on campus and everything in the city of Pittsburgh. Outside of the academic and professional opportunities, there are many things on campus that get overlooked. While you may not know about some or most of these things, you definitely should.
1. DVD Rentals from the library
Located on floor five of Gumberg Library, there is a wide selection of popular and recent DVDs available for check out. Titles range from the entire Harry Potter series to "Interstellar."
2. Bagel breakfast sandwiches
While most students know that Incline has breakfast sandwiches every morning, most don't know that you can get one made fresh on a bagel. If you bring the worker over a bagel from the left side, they will prepare your sandwich on it.
3. Bingo
Every Thursday night in the Nite Spot is bingo night. Sounds kind of lame, right? Wrong! If you stop by for just a half hour of your night, you can win $25 gift cards to great restaurants and stores in the area for free. What college student wouldn't benefit from that? Some of the gift cards include Cheesecake Factory, Starbucks, Q'doba and H&M.
4. Free t-shirts
In an effort to attract fans, many of the men and women at basketball games hand out free t-shirts. Admission to the games are free, so it's definitely worth stopping in for a free shirt! Maybe you'll even stay to enjoy the game!
5. New panini press
By the sandwich line in towers, a new panini press has just been added! This is a real game changer. Now, you can press your sandwiches and wraps.
6. Red Ring Specials
Come enjoy these specials before you run out of flex!
Monday 4-10 $5.95 burgers
Monday through Thursday 8:40-10 half-off appetizers
Half-off wings every Wednesday 4-10
Tot Tuesday -- build your own basket for $3.50 from 4-10
7. Nite Spot
While many students don't think to stop by the Nite Spot, it's actually a great place to hang out. There are events there almost every night. For example, there are free wing nights, craft nights, service projects and other activities. Even when there isn't an event scheduled, it's a good place to sit with friends, play table games and enjoy free drinks and slushies.
8. Student discounts
Heading off campus, there are plenty of student discounts available in the area, and some will even extend to your home towns. For example, students are eligible to buy student rush tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguin games. The movie theater in Southside Works sells student tickets for $7.50. If you're looking into checking out many of the Pittsburgh museums, many have discounted admission fees for students. Some clothing stores provide student discounts as well. In Southside Works, H&M offers a 15 percent off discount to students.
9. Weekend trips and activities
Many students complain about the constant emails, but if you take the time to read them, you can find out about some awesome opportunities! Duquesne provides reasonably priced trips to major cities like NYC and Washington, D.C. There are also more local options like buses to the outlet mall, or discounted tickets for Pirate games. On campus, there are other fun activities and competitions. Last year, Duquesne created it's own spin on the TV show "Chopped." Teams of students competed for flex and a fancy dinner.
