1. Preparing yourself the night before
If you're anything like me, this means packing your bags because you've been too lazy to do it all week. Or this could simply mean double checking what's in your bag so you don't forget anything.
2. Getting up unnecessarily early
Your parents have a set time they want to leave, you better get up precisely when they tell you to and not a minute later.
3. Then, not leaving until an hour after they said you would
You end up being the first one ready so you sit in the car waiting on your parents to finish stuffing everything in the trunk. You're not allowed to be mad that they're late, even though you knew this would happen and you could've gotten another hour of sleep.
4. Finally getting on the road
I don't know what it's like to not have siblings on a family vacation but if you have them too, you know the pain. The fighting has commenced and your parents have already threatened to turn the car around to go home.
5. You need to make at least 30 stops to pee
It feels like someone in your family has to pee about every 20 miles. It gets really annoying but you do get the chance of using those top notch gas station bathrooms. Who doesn't love those? If you ask to go to the bathroom up to an hour after you've already stopped though, chances are your parents will not stop the car. Unless they have to go of course.
6. Trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep
You've got your pillow up against the window and your blanket wrapped around your legs and you finally start to doze off. All of the sudden, your body decides you're not comfortable. So, you continuously try to get in the right position and finally, you give up and just sleep because there's absolutely no way you are getting comfortable in this car.
7. You've gone through your road trip playlist too many times
You're out of music to listen to so you have to make the difficult decision to use your data and turn on Pandora. There's zero chances you'll make it if you don't have music playing to drown out the sound of your family.
8. Food
You're starving. You need food. Snacks are not cutting it. You ask your parents to go through a drive-thru but sadly, your mom pulls out the sack lunches she made before you left the house. Really. It's a road trip, you're supposed to eat out as much as you can. You're forced to eat a soggy turkey sandwich while you're dreaming about the McChicken you could be devouring right now.
9. FINALLY, you have arrived at your destination
Now comes unloading the car and picking which bed is yours. Hopefully this vacation will be better than last years.
