9 Reasons Why Your Mom Is Your Best Friend

I have had many friends in my life, but no friend could ever come close to my mom. She's my shoulder to cry on, my voice of reason, my rock. She exemplifies everything that it means to be a best friend. Here are some of the reasons why my mom is mine.

1. She always keeps you on track.

I know how we all felt when we were younger and our moms would always nag us to do things. But in reality, without those constant, and sometimes excessive reminders, our lives probably would not have gone nearly as smoothly as they did.

2. She is your biggest supporter.

From the little league game, to the dance practices, to the school awards, your mom was always there cheering the loudest for you. No matter what she will always be by your side.

3. She makes you laugh.

She's the one person who you can completely be your weird self with. Whether it be the quirky mom jokes or making fun of one another, your mom is always good for a laugh.

4. She gives you great advice.

No matter what you ask, your mom always has an answer. Even though we all think that she doesn’t understand, she actually does know what she’s talking about, so listen to her!

5. She listens to you rant.

We all know the first person we call whenever one of our friends is bothering us … our mom. She listens to the endless hours of ranting without question and somehow manages to calm you down.

8. She calls the doctor for you because you're too scared to do it yourself.

Whenever we face that dreaded moment of having to call the doctor's office, there's a phone call we make first. And that's to mom. We all know we still make her do this. Don’t even deny it.

7. She helps you out while you learn how to adult.

I don’t know about you, but I still don’t know how to adult. When it comes to banking, cooking, or laundry, I am always lost and need a little assistance from the professional.

8. She is your shoulder to cry on.

Sometimes you just need a good cry and your mom is always the person for that. From the breakups to the breakdowns, she is always there to pick you up when you're down. She is your shoulder to cry on, literally.

9. She loves you, no matter what.

A mother daughter bond is so unique and special. Regardless of the fights, the rants, the cry sessions, the phone calls she makes for you, she always loves you at the end of the day. There truly is nothing like a mother's love.

Thank you so much for being my best friend. Each and every day I feel so lucky to be able to have you as not only my mom, but also my best friend.

Love you mom.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
