The holidays are some of the most exciting times of the year. One minute, you’re preparing your Halloween costume, the next you’re preparing your belly for the delicious and huge meal you’re about to indulge in on Thanksgiving! There’s nothing more exciting for a tired and homesick college student than going home for the holiday breaks. Most of us already have our calendars marked with the dates of Fall Break and the last day of finals. Plane and train tickets are purchased and the countdown to the holiday break has begun. They give you the chance to enjoy precious time with family and home friends and relax as this magical time of year brings great cheer and leisure.
Here are nine reasons why I absolutely love going home for the holiday breaks..
1. Being with my family. Feeling homesick is one of the hardest things and there’s nothing like reuniting with your loved ones after being away from them for long periods of time.
2. The home cooked meals. Home cooked meals definitely beat boxed macaroni and cheese and Ramen noodles!
3. Reuniting with home friends. Because even after all this time, it’s like nothing has changed at all.
4. Sleeping in your own bed. A childhood bed is irreplaceable and will always be one of the top things on your list that you’ve missed.
5. Not doing any kind of schoolwork. I love breaks because I love being away from the stress of my classes. If your professors are nice, they won’t assign schoolwork over the holidays.
6. Excitement all around. The stores are crazy as Christmas is quickly approaching and stores playing cheerful holiday tunes as you pass aisles filled with decorations.
7. Traditions. Continuing holiday family traditions, whether it's who makes the apple pie, or going over to your cousins' house on Christmas Eve.
8. Catching up on sleep. We all know it’s impossible to get the healthy eight hours of sleep a night at school with everything going on, so breaks are a perfect opportunity to lounge around and sleep all you want.
9. Enjoying every moment to yourself. It’s difficult to get alone time at school, whether you’re meeting with group members for a project, or studying with friends, it’s important to get time to yourself to reflect on everything you have accomplished in the year.
