2016 is (finally) almost over and that means coming up with your list of resolutions for the new year. While you may think that resolutions are a waste of time, there are plenty of good (and realistic) resolutions that you can make, that will ensure a better 2017.
1. Go to the gym more
Let’s face it, getting healthy/going to the gym/working out is likely at the top of everyone’s resolution list. And before you doubt it — yes, going to the gym is more is totally attainable. Just make sure your goal is realistic. Don’t say you’re going to go to the gym five times a week if you didn’t go within five feet of the fitness all semester. Shoot for two to three times a week to start with.
2. Be healthier
This, too, it totally attainable if you go about it the right way. Make simple changes — skip your regular pizza for one of the healthier options in the dining hall, and make the ice cream a treat instead of a standard.
3. Care more — about everything
Classes, extracurriculars, work — anything you’re involved in. If you’re dedicating your time to it, care about it. You’ll find that not only will you produce better work overall, but you’ll find you feel more accomplished when you finish something you really care about.
4. Sleep more
Us college students seem to get so little sleep — and it’s just not healthy. Make an effort to sleep more this year. Plan your nights so that you can get to bed earlier; maybe work on that paper earlier than the night before it’s due, or cut your Netflix binge a little short.
5. Take care of yourself
Both physically and mentally. A lot of the time we push aside our mental health when life gets hectic; try to change that this year. Pay attention to how you’re really feeling, and remember that it’s not bad to treat yourself to some TLC.
6. Spend time with your family
You’re away at college, and your time with your family is already limited. While there are a million thing you’re currently involved in, and even more things you’d love to dedicate some time to, find some time to spend with your family. Before you know it, you’ll have graduated and will be even more strapped for time to spend with them. Even if you just set up a weekly phone call with your parents, they’ll still appreciate it.
7. Explore your passions
Make an effort to dedicate some time to what you really love doing — or spend some time finding out what your passion is. Start a blog, go on a retreat, or volunteer at your local animal shelter. Find whatever it is you love doing and do it.
8. Cut toxic people out
Is there someone in your life dragging you down? Or someone who’s just particularly negative all the time? Now is the time to make the change and cut them out of your life. Put yourself first, and remember: getting rid of them will only benefit you.
