Online classes – it's an area of college some student are afraid to touch, but others absolutely love them. It's definitely a different experience than your traditional Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday class. I was hesitant to sign up for my first online class, but I'm so glad I did because it's made my college courses so much more flexible and the style of learning really works for me. Let me tell you about all of the things you'll love about an online course if you decide to give it a try. I'm sure students who have already experienced online classes would agree!
1. You can do your work whereever you want.
2. They are a lot less time consuming because most do not require you to sit through lectures like traditional classes.
3. If you have good time management skills, online classes aren't as stressful because you can work on a problem or read a chapter of a textbook at your own pace.
4. Every test is open notes, even if it is not specified by the instructor.
5. You can wear your PJs to class, and no one can judge you.
6. If your a commuter student like me, online classes make your life so much easier because you can schedule classes online and on campus for the same semester, so you don't have to drive to class five days a week.
7. Especially for gen-eds, you can have a more one-on-one relationship with the professor, and if you don't need the instructors help, that's cool, too. I've taken classes online where I've only heard from the instructor once for the whole course.
8. I have found that the materials are a lot easier. Sometimes you get multiple tries for tests and homework, but even if you don't, it helps to be able to have your notes and the Internet accessible to you during assignments.
9. You learn how to have good time management and self-motivation.
Don't be intimidated by online classes. They can seem like a lot of work and like it would be harder since your on your own, but from my experience, that's not the case. Next time you're scheduling classes, do yourself a favor and try an online course. Even if it is a decent amount of work, who wouldn't rather be drinking coffee on the couch doing homework instead of sitting through a class three days a week?
