I have always been an avid reader, my love for books stemmed from the ability to go to into another world aimlessly. You could be so captivated and indulged within a novel, that you could forget all of the problems and struggles you were facing yourself. Throughout the years, I have grown very particular and critical of books. These are few of my favorites that I have grown close with recently. There are the must-reads of the fall if you haven’t already read them yet!

1. This Is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp

Looking through the array of books on shelves, this one stuck out to me right away. The title itself is questioning but the quote etched onto the cover, "Everyone has a reason to fear a boy with the gun.", made me run right to the register. In a time where mass-shootings have become more deadlier than ever before, you can't help but feel this could be a reality. This book left me speechless. Every twist and turn left my heart in my stomach. You probably won't be able to breathe until you have read the final page.

2. Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

This wasn't a typical book that I normally go for. But I had heard from many that it was worth reading, and to say they were right is an understatement. Seeing Melinda Sordino's transformation from a girl who hid from her own shadow to a fearless woman defeating odds, leaves you in awe. In ways, you can relate to her in your adolescent years.

3. I Am That Girl by Alexis Jones

This book is all about YOU. You are capable of absolutely anything, and everything you see as a flaw is not. It is time to ignore that little voice in your head that tells you that "you can't do this" or "you aren't capable of that". Be that girl who speaks up for what she believes in. Be that girl that loves herself unconditionally. Alexis Jones reflects on how we must focus on who we are and accepting it for everything it is. She shows you that the girl you have always wanted yourself to be or compared your self to is right there. You are already that girl.

4. Looking For Alaska by John Green

This novel gives the ultimate fall vibes. This raveling novel keeps you on your toes, especially when you have it glued to your hands. You follow Miles into his life at a new boarding school, encaptured by a girl who changes his life entirely. Shadows of darkness glisten onto the pages. When you think you can predict every event after knowing the synopsis, you are entirely wrong. You won't regret picking this book up and letting it take you away for a little while.

5. Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Although this was a book assigned to read for school, it inspired me. It had changed my views on immigrants and the struggles they face daily along the culture shock of coming to America and the clear discrimination that lies within our country.

6. Love, Rosie by Cecilia Ahern

I feel as though this book is very underrated. The movie that followed this novel was seen as disappointing to some (not me). But you can't help but fall in love with the relationship between Rosie and Alex. Best friends since childhood, having each other's backs through all of their triumphs, failures, boyfriends, girlfriends, and drama throughout their life. You will get the ultimate emotional satisfaction reading this.

7. How To Be Happy: Not A Self-Help Book by Lian S. Thomas

This isn't the typical book that you normally see with pages of words neatly aligned together. It is more so, a mix of misconstrued emails, tweets, poetry, and stories. Iain's words leave you questioning your own existence and treasuring the little things in life.

8. #Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso

Do you want to feel empowered and unstoppable? This is the book for you. I have never wanted to go out and do more with my life. I am not joking, right after you read a few chapters, I guarantee that you are going to want to start your own business and slay the world with your talents. Who needs a boss when you can be your own? Oh, and I definitely suggest jumping on Netflix and watching the TV show. Trust me, it will not disappoint.

9. The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur

Most of you probably already know about this book and the author but if you don't, Rupi Kaur wrote "Milk and Honey". A book that touched millions and became a success instantly. In this book following "Milk and Honey", she shows more vulnerability in her roots and falling in love after heartbreak. The few words she puts together on each page makes you feel as though your heart is breaking and full, all at once.

I hope that these novels inspire you, even if they aren't quite your cup of tea. Give it a try and let me know if you enjoyed them as much as I did!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
