Remember how cool YouTube was when you were in middle school? JennaMarbles had just come out with the face, the Potter Puppet Pals had one of the most infectious songs to date (this will now be stuck in my head all day), and let us not forget the most annoying a lovable pink and blue unicorns who were constantly getting their friend Charlie into trouble or the significantly younger Charlie who bit his brother's finger. We had a great YouTube past, didn't we? Comedy gold, right there, but YouTube has been evolving since you've been gone, so I've got some gems you should give a go that may convince you to come on back to the community.
1. Markiplier
If you really appreciate a good video game, but don't really consider yourself a gamer, Markiplier is where it's at. Mark is a really great guy. He does lots of funny videos, both in games and just sketches and the like, but he also is really great at being a serious game reviewer. While he does have his loud moments, like every YouTuber, he's not the loudest gamer out there. My current favorite playthrough of his is Outlast that he started in 2013. He recently did the second game and they're both great.
2. shane
You may have heard a bit of Shane Dawson when you were in middle school, but he wasn't too big back then, at least not among my friends and me. He has evolved a lot from that time, though. He's now doing a lot of kind of stupid, but really hilarious, videos that you can tell give him joy, and some creepy videos, as he calls them. When I need a good laugh, his funny videos are one of the first places I go, but as someone who's really interested in the supernatural and scary things, I love his creepy videos.
3. Ladylike
This originally started as a show on one of BuzzFeed's YouTube channels. The women quite recently started their own channel so that they could communicate with their fans and community, something they weren't allowed to do on BuzzFeed's channel. The show is funny and also informative. These women are trying things that all of us women in the real world are curious about from makeup hacks to going commando. If you're a woman, I highly recommend it.
4. ThreadBanger
This is a husband and wife team who do a WHOLE LOT of DIYs. Most of them are from Pinterest, but recently, they've been dipping into Instagram. Most of the time, Corinne is successful, but Rob's not. Either way, it's usually pretty entertaining to watch and you get to see if those DIYs you've been wanting to try are actually attainable.
5. Cheat Day
If you enjoy watching people eat food, love to see different crazy foods, and/or are curious about weird food, this is your kind of show. It's also super funny. I highly recommend it.
6. Beauty Break and Beauty Trippin

7. Simply Nailogical
As someone who bites their nails, I've always been unnaturally fascinated with nail art, but I also liked to be entertained just like anyone else. Cristine is the perfect way to do this. She has only recently made her claim to fame by being the one to start the 100 coats fad that you probably saw happening several months ago since it was sweeping the internet. Since then, Cristine has continued making great nail tutorials, funny videos, and polish "experiments." She even does some beauty videos as her beauty blogger persona, Simply Facelogical. If you didn't know what a holosexual was, you're about to become one. You're welcome.
8. jacksfilms
Are you also a sarcastic asshole? Check this guy out! He makes fun of everything going on in pop culture right now, picks the most sarcastic and not fitting answers and questions for videos, and makes from of bad grammar. He also will occasionally do sketches, parodies, etc. My current favorite videos are parodies(?) about fidget spinners and Alexander Hamilton.
9. JennaMarbles
Remember her? She was a joke on Family Guy, which was kinda hilarious. Where'd she go? Nowhere. She's been on YouTube this whole time, making kind of hilarious videos. Recently, she's started doing videos that she wants to do because she thinks it'll be fun, which is always hilarious. My current favorite is where she covered her face in rhinestones.
If you got away from YouTube for awhile, I hope you check out my recomendations and rejoin the community because it's honestly such a fun place to hang out.
