Every school has “that teacher" that knows everything there is to know about college. Well here are a few of the not-so-true things you might hear from the teacher or teachers who know it all.

1. “College professors don't care about you, it's all about the money to them."

My college professors so far have been very open to helping students in any way they can. They also are totally down to help outside of class during office hours. All you have to do is ask.

2. “If you're late to class, they will lock you out and whatever you miss you can't make up."

This is sooooo not true. Do you know how many people would never go to class ever if the doors were locked when class started?? The only time I've ever heard of the doors locking for a class is on a test day. And you can go in the door at the back of the classroom, so you're not locked out.

3. “There is no eating in a college classroom."

Personally, I'm very thankful that this is a lie, as snacking is my all-time favorite hobby during class.

4.“If you skip class in college, you will fail."

Also not true. Skipping 1 or 2 days isn't going to kill you. I know people who skip almost the entire semester and still make pretty decent grades. (Wouldn't recommend, but to each their own.)

5. “MLA format is the most important thing you will learn."

WRONG!! That thing... APA Style... The one we never talked about... Yeah, that's what they want in college.

Thanks for nothing. 🙃

6.“You'll miss high school."

Absolutely not. In college, you go to a few classes a day, a few hours and then you're done. Its wonderful.

7. “The friends you make in high school will be the best friends you will ever have."

Maybe this works out better if you don't move away for college. I still talk to a few of my friends from high school, but being honest, you just grow apart as you move down different paths, and that's okay. When you get to college and get in a specific major, you will make friends with similar interests as you. My college friends have turned into my family and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

8. “College is all about work, and you have to be ready to devote the majority of your time to study."

Well, yes and no. College is about school, but you want to have memories to look back on other than the inside of the library. Having good self-discipline and being able to devote your time to study is very important. It's also equally important to make friends, experience new things, and have fun! You only get to go to college once, so enjoy it!

9. “If you work hard enough, you won't need student loans at all."

This one makes me mad. You can work your entire high school career to make good grades and build an awesome resume, and sometimes, you just don't get the scholarship or the grant. Really, the top 3 in each class get a lot of scholarships, and everyone else gets the other ones that are few and far between. I made really good grades in high school, and I got 2 scholarships. Don't think because you don't get $100,000 in scholarships that you can't go to college. Student loans suck, but if you're dedicated, it will be well worth it in the end.

The thing I have learned about other people's advice is this, listen to what they say and then disregard it. No one is going to be able to tell you exactly what will happen to you in college or life in general and no one can tell you how good or bad your experience will be. You only go to college as an undergrad once. So enjoy it, do everything you want, and make the most of this once in a lifetime journey you are about to embark on.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
