Growing up with a Best Friend who didn't follow the rules wasn't easy. They definitely have pushed you to the limit at times. But through all the mistakes and hardship you have learned how strong the bonds of your friendship are. Here are a few things I have learned from growing up with a rebellious best friend.
1. Don't rely on the plans you made.
Chances' are that your friend has gotten in trouble yet again and is grounded for the weekend. That means the movie you planned to go to on Saturday: not happening. Always have a backup plan just in case your plans are canceled yet again.
2. Have a getaway car ready
Because your friend is prone to the mischief they will rely on you to help them escape the scene. Always be prepared to pick them up when they need it. And learn to accept the fact that you will be woken up at 3 in the morning because they are calling you to let you know they need a ride.
3. It feels nice to be the "good" one
As bad as it sounds you take pride in being the reliable and responsible friend, and there is nothing wrong with that! Everyone needs someone they can count on. And in this case for your friend, that someone is you.
4. Forehead wrinkles can develop at any age
Time and time again you have sat and worried about what your friend has gotten themselves into this time. There are times when all you can do is sit, wait and hope that they are okay.
5. Whatever trouble you are in they have experienced much worse
The tables have turned and you are grounded for the weekend. You can rest easy knowing that whatever you did they have done worse.
6. They give great advice
On the rare occasion you are in trouble they know exactly how you feel and are always there to give you great advice on how to get through it.
7. You learn from their mistakes
You have seen it all. The time they sneaked out of their house late at night and didn't return home because they fell asleep, you learned that maybe it isn't a great idea to sneak out of the house.
8. Rebelling isn't as fun as it sounds
Being rebellious is not all that it is cracked up to be. Your the friend has a lot of regrets and you've seen the toll it takes on them.
9. They will always be your best friend
You two have been through hell and back together so you are rest assured knowing that they will always be by your side no matter what.
